Whiskey Off-Road course maps and aid stations

Three mountain bike courses that start on Whiskey Row in downtown Prescott and head into the Prescott National Forest.

April 30 to May 2, 2027 Prescott, Arizona

The Whiskey Off-Road is Epic Rides' spring mountain bike weekend in Prescott, Arizona, first run in 2004. Every course starts on Whiskey Row and climbs into the Prescott National Forest on singletrack, double track, gravel roads and the odd paved stretch. You finish on the shaded lawn of the courthouse square.

In 2026 the 15 Proof Fun Ride went on Friday afternoon and the 25 and 50 Proof on Saturday morning. The pros raced a fat tire crit downtown on Friday evening and the backcountry course on Sunday. The 2027 courses aren't out yet, so the map shows the 2026 courses and aid stations.

Aid stations are 1 to 1.5 hours of riding apart. Crews drive to them, and one can only be reached from the Skull Valley side. Download the map before the weekend so you and your crew know where to go.

This is an unofficial guide: Goat Maps isn't affiliated with Whiskey Off-Road. Check the official site before you enter or race.

The 2026 course drops west on Copper Basin Road toward Skull Valley and climbs back up the same road toward Prescott. The climb tops out at the 4-Way, where Copper Basin Road meets Thumb Butte Road. You have to be there by 12:50 PM and at White Rock by 1:20 PM, because course support ends at 4:00 PM.

There are four aid stations: Mike Janelle Memorial at mile 18, the 4-Way at 24, White Rock at 30 and Spence Basin at 35. Mike Janelle is about 4.5 miles up Copper Basin Road from Skull Valley. Amateurs could take Aspen Creek (Trail 48) or Moby, and the map shows Moby; the pros had to ride Aspen Creek and Happy Ending. In 2026 the 50 Proof started in two waves, at 8:00 and 8:15 AM Saturday, and the pros raced the 50 Proof backcountry route on Sunday.

The 2026 course had two aid stations, the 4-Way at mile 8 and White Rock at mile 16, with a 1:20 PM cutoff at White Rock. That year it also gave you a choice of trail: the 9401J, double track under open sky, or Sparrow, tighter singletrack mostly under the pines. Epic Rides says the climbing and ride time come out about the same either way. The map shows Sparrow.

In 2026 the 25 Proof went off in three waves, from 9:15 to 9:45 AM Saturday.

Epic Rides calls it a fun ride, but a challenge too. In 2026 it started at 2:00 PM Friday, with aid at Aspen Creek (mile 5.5) and White Rock (mile 13.5). Aspen Creek is only open to crews on Friday.

Support on the course ends at 6:00 PM. If you're running late, the race director may send you the most direct way to the finish.

Registration

Registration for 2027 opens on Black Friday, November 27, 2026, at 6 AM Arizona time. Pre-register on the Epic Rides site to be told the minute it opens.

The 2027 prices weren't posted when we checked. In 2026 the 25 and 50 Proof cost $215 until January 31, $235 until March 31 and $255 after that. The 15 Proof cost $150 to $190, and a 50 Proof Duo team $430 to $510. Each entry includes a $20 donation to the event's charities, among them the Yavapai Food Bank. Entries aren't refundable, but until April 12 you could switch distance or hand your entry to another rider for free.

Distances with 300 or more riders start in waves. If you finished within an hour of the winner of your distance at the Whiskey or the Tour of the White Mountains in the last two years, you get a Fast Pass to the front of the first wave. The Duo category, new in 2026, puts two riders on the 50 Proof as a team. Roll into a checkpoint or the finish more than two minutes apart and you take a 10 minute penalty.

Getting to Prescott

Prescott is about 100 miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor, around two hours by road. Groome runs an hourly shuttle that takes about two and a quarter hours. Prescott Regional Airport, about 8 miles north of town, has United Express flights to Denver and Los Angeles.

Packet pickup is on Whiskey Row on Friday, and you need a government ID. The riders' meeting is mandatory, at 7 PM Friday on the south courthouse steps.

Crewing and spectating

Crews can hand up food and drink at the aid stations. Each one has its own way in:

  • For the 4-Way, park at the Copper Basin trailhead and walk a quarter mile uphill.
  • For White Rock, take Gurley Street west until it becomes Thumb Butte Road. The trailhead is a big free gravel lot on the right, about 1.5 miles past the Thumb Butte picnic area.
  • For Mike Janelle, drive Iron Springs Road to Skull Valley, then about 4.5 miles up Copper Basin Road. Don't try it from the Prescott side, or you'll be driving into the race.
  • Spence Basin is off Iron Springs Road at FS 332, with very little parking.
  • Aspen Creek, open to crews on Friday only, is on Copper Basin Road. Park past the aid station.

Skip the old Copper Basin aid station at FR 53, which isn't used any more. To watch without crewing, park at Thumb Butte Park ($5) and walk the trail toward the riders, who leave it there for the pavement back to Whiskey Row. On Friday evening the pro crit runs a one-mile downtown circuit, and the Union Street climb is the place to stand.

Weather and what to bring

Prescott's 1991 to 2020 normals give average highs of 68°F in April and 76°F in May, with lows of 37°F and 45°F. Each month gets about half an inch of rain.

The aid stations stock Neversecond C30 gels, drink mix and bars, plus cookies, pretzels, oranges and pickles. Bring your own mix if you prefer it and add the course water. Start with a full hydration pack and enough food to reach the first aid station.
