Ultra Trail du Vercors course maps, aid stations and cutoffs

A one-day race in the Vercors, 35 km from Grenoble: 84 km alone or as a team of four, or 48 km.

2027 dates not announced yet, usually in September Villard-de-Lans, Isère

The UTV is a September race in the northern Vercors on a new course every year, and the base moves too. In 2026 everything started and finished at the Colline des Bains in Villard-de-Lans; in 2025 it was Autrans-Méaudre.

The 2026 84 km, run solo or as a four-person relay, went by Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte, the La Sure ski area above Autrans and Rencurel before coming back to Villard. The 48 km Trail des 4 Montagnes also reached Saint-Nizier at km 25, then turned for home by La Croix Perrin. The organizer pitches the solo as a format for running your first ultra.

The lines are the organizer's 2026 courses, and the pins their aid stations and cutoff points. The organizer only puts the GPX out about a week before the race, because parts of the course cross private land the owners open for race day alone, and holding the file back keeps recon down. Download the map once the file is out, so the course is on your phone, which has to stay on during the race anyway.

There are only three aid stations: Saint-Nizier at km 25, the La Sure ski area at Autrans at km 41 and Rencurel at km 65. That leaves 25 km to the first, 24 km between Autrans and Rencurel and 19 km to the finish, and the kit list asks for room for at least 2 liters of water.

Reach the Gîte de la Molière (km 33) after 2 PM and you're diverted onto the 48 km course. Autrans closes at 3 PM and the point below the Pas de Pertuson (km 56) at 3:30 PM. The organizer says Pertuson is the one to plan for, so don't linger at Autrans. Runners past 7 PM at the Balcons du Méaudret (km 73) are diverted along the road, and Les Jarrands (km 76) closes at 9 PM. The 18½ hour limit means finishing by 11:30 PM.

Registration

For 2026, entries opened on February 7 through the race site's registration page. To get more women into ultra running, the organizer keeps 30% of the solo ultra bibs and 40% of the 48 km bibs for women, so enter the race for your own sex.

You need a sports licence from an accepted federation or a PPS, the French athletics federation's online health check, no more than three months old. A bib can change hands: email the organizer the name of the runner giving it up, and the new runner's name, date of birth and email.

The 2027 date wasn't announced when this page was checked.

Getting to Villard-de-Lans

Villard-de-Lans is 35 km from Grenoble, whose train station is the nearest. Cars Région Isère's T64 coach runs every day between Villard-de-Lans and Grenoble station, by way of Engins and Lans-en-Vercors.

The race site points to the Vercors tourist office for places to stay.

Bib pickup and race day

In 2026 bibs were handed out at the Colline des Bains on Friday from 5:30 to 8:30 PM, with the race briefing at 7 PM, and the organizer asked runners to come on Friday if they could. On Saturday solo runners could still collect theirs from 4 to 4:30 AM, and 48 km and relay runners from 4 to 6:30 AM.

The organizer expected the first solo runners and relay teams back around 2 PM, with the podiums at 6 PM and the last runners in by 11:30 PM.

Weather and what to carry

September in Villard-de-Lans averages a high of 18.8°C and a low of 6.3°C, with 121 mm of rain, by Météo-France's 1991 to 2020 normals for the station in town.

The race site's mandatory kit list, set for the forecast, includes a phone switched on for the whole race, room for at least 2 liters of water, a survival blanket, a whistle, a buff, gloves, a headlamp, a windproof jacket, clothing with reflective parts and a long-sleeved top in a waterproof bag. The headlamp is compulsory before 7 AM and after 8 PM.

UTV FAQ

When is the Ultra Trail du Vercors 2027?

The 2027 date hadn't been announced when this page was checked. The 2026 race was on Saturday, September 12, and the 2025 and 2024 editions were on September 6 and September 7.

Where can I get the UTV GPX?

From the race pages on the organizer's site, about a week before the race. Parts of the course cross private land the owners open only for race day, and the course is new every year, so there's nothing to download months ahead.

What happens if I miss a cutoff on the UTV solo?

Two of the cutoffs send you a different way. After 2 PM at the Gîte de la Molière (km 33) you're diverted onto the 48 km course, and after 7 PM at the Balcons du Méaudret (km 73) you're sent along the road.

Are there places for women at the UTV?

Yes. For 2026 the organizer kept 30% of the solo ultra bibs and 40% of the Trail des 4 Montagnes bibs for women.

What should I do if I meet a guard dog on the course?

The course crosses summer pastures with flocks and their guard dogs. The organizer asks you to stop running as you near a flock, put your poles away and go around it if you can. If a dog comes up to you, stand still with your arms and poles at your sides, don't look it in the eye, talk to it and give it time to settle before you walk on slowly.

Can you get to the UTV without a car?

Yes. The T64 coach runs every day between Grenoble station and Villard-de-Lans, where the 2026 race started and finished.
