Torrencial Chile course maps and aid stations

Six winter races in the rainforest around Valdivia, from a 6.5 km run on Isla Teja to a 101 km night in the Coastal Range.

June 24 to 27, 2027 Valdivia, Los Ríos, Chile

Torrencial is a UTMB World Series race in Valdivia, in southern Chile, held in June at the start of the southern winter. The organizer calls it the only winter race in Chile and treats the rain as part of the course. The 2026 edition was the tenth, with about 2,800 runners from 25 countries.

The 2027 edition runs June 24 to 27. The Pilolcura 100K and the Oncol 65K start in Punucapa, north of the city, climb into the Coastal Range through Parque Oncol and finish at Parque Saval in Valdivia. The Llancahue 45K and Collico 20K start and finish in Collico, on the city's east side. The Cau Cau 12K and Isla Teja 6K are short loops from Parque Saval.

The 100K starts at 10 PM on Thursday and runs through the night on rocky, slippery trails in the rainforest. Download the course map before you go. GPS shows where you are on it without a signal.

The 100K leaves Punucapa at 10 PM on Thursday, June 24, with 22 hours to reach Parque Saval. The organizer pitches it as a run through the longest night of the year, on rocky, slippery trails under the rainforest's olivillos and canelos. The high point is only about 700 m, but the course climbs 4,100 m in all.

Most of the night goes on the first big loop: Las Truchas, the Cafetería Oncol station on Cerro Oncol, Pililín, then down to Quitaqui and Casa Manns near sea level, where your drop bag waits. From there it's back up to El Canelo, Las Truchas a second time and Potreros, then south to Espacio Bayo and into the city. The longest gap is the 18.6 km from Las Truchas to Cafetería Oncol, in the dark.

The 65K leaves Punucapa at 3 AM on Friday, so the first hours are in the dark and, in the organizer's words, you run with the light of dawn. It shares most of the 100K's trails, skipping the loop out to Pililín, Quitaqui, Casa Manns and El Canelo, and comes back past Las Truchas to Potreros and the finish at Parque Saval. The limit is 14 hours.

The organizer warns of flooded meadows and streams on top of the rocky, slippery climbs. As with the 100K, the stretch from Las Truchas up to Cafetería Oncol is the long one, at 18.6 km.

Registration and fees

Entry is online through a MyUTMB account, and fees go up in tiers as places fill. First-tier fees run from US$48 for the 6K to US$254 for the 100K, with a discount for Chileans applied at checkout. The longer distances ask for a valid UTMB Index, meaning you've finished a race that awards one, whatever the score. The 100K and 65K also need a medical certificate, uploaded when you register.

There are no refunds. You can transfer your entry to another runner until May 31, 2027, or switch distances until June 11, 2027, each for a US$15 fee.

Every finisher of the 100K, 65K, 45K or 20K gets Running Stones toward the UTMB Mont-Blanc lottery. The top 3 women and top 3 men in the 100K get a place in the CCC, and in the 65K a place in the OCC.

Getting to Valdivia

Valdivia is 840 km south of Santiago by road. Flights from Santiago to Pichoy Airport (ZAL) take an hour to an hour and a half on LATAM, Sky Airline or JetSMART, and the airport is about 30 minutes from town. By car it's 9 to 10 hours down Route 5, and by bus 10 to 12 hours.

The race village is at Parque Saval, on Isla Teja, where the 100K, 65K, 12K and 6K finish. The host hotel, Puerta del Sur, is close to the park.

Crewing and drop bags

Only the 100K allows a crew, and only one person, at Potreros and Espacio Bayo. Your crew can hand you a bag of up to 30 liters there and help with small things like a blister, but not medical care. No one may run with you outside the marked zones near the aid stations, so there are no pacers.

The 100K's drop bag waits at Casa Manns, at 52.1 km. Your entry includes a ride back to the finish from the aid stations if you drop out, under the race rules.

Weather and what to carry

June in Valdivia averages a high of 11°C and a low of 5°C, with about 330 mm of rain over 19 wet days, by the 1991 to 2020 normals for Pichoy Airport. Parque Oncol gets more than 3,500 mm of rain a year. Expect to be wet from the start.

The regulations say the mandatory kit list is on the race website, and the kit is checked during the race. Pack the kit in waterproof bags so it's dry when you need it. The aid stations have no disposable cups or cutlery, so bring your own if you want hot food. If you start with poles you carry them to the end, and headphones aren't allowed.
