Festival des Templiers course maps and aid stations

Eighteen races over four days on the plateaus and gorges around Millau, mapped here from the 33.6 km Marathon des Causses to the 100.5 km Endurance Trail.

October 15 to 18, 2026 Millau, Aveyron

The Templiers is a festival of trail races in Millau, in the south of the Aveyron, first run in 1995. The main race is the Grand Trail des Templiers, 80 km on Sunday morning, which starts in the dark and loops over the Causse Noir and the Larzac, through the gorges of the Jonte and the Dourbie. The 2026 festival runs from Thursday, October 15, to Sunday, October 18, with 18 races on the program.

This page maps five of them: the Endurance Trail, the Grand Trail, the Intégrale des Causses, the Boffi Fifty and the Marathon des Causses. The Rock'Voizine, the Marathon du Larzac, the Monna Lisa and the shorter races aren't mapped here.

The long races start before sunrise and spend hours on narrow trail along the cliff tops. Download the course map before you go. GPS shows where you are on it without a signal, and your crew can use it to find the few aid stations they're allowed to reach.

This is an unofficial guide: Goat Maps isn't affiliated with Festival HOKA Les Templiers. Check the official site before you enter or race.

The Endurance Trail leaves Millau at 4:00 and 4:25 on Friday and spends its first 20 km crossing the Causse Noir, which spreads the field out. It drops into the Tarn gorges at Le Rozier, takes the Balcon du Vertige down to Le Truel in the Jonte valley, then climbs to Espaliès and follows a slow, technical path along the top of the Jonte cliffs to the Champignon préhistorique and Saint-André-de-Vézines. From there it runs by Montméjean, Roquesaltes, La Roque-Sainte-Marguerite and the Larzac corniches, and finishes with the climb from Massebiau to Le Cade and the descent past the grotte du Hibou.

There are only five full aid stations, with water points between them, and a cutoff at every stop. The last two fall after midnight: Massebiau at 0:30 and Le Cade at 1:30. The organizer keeps a fallback route for runners at the last cutoff. Finish in under 19 hours and you can enter the lottery for the 2027 Western States Endurance Run.

The Grand Trail starts in three waves by bib number, at 5:10, 5:35 and 5:50. It begins gently on the road to Paulhe, then climbs the steep Côte de Carbassas onto the Causse Noir and follows forest tracks past Betpaumes and Le Sonnac before the first singletrack drops to Peyreleau, above the Tarn. From there it runs along the Jonte to the Saint-Michel hermitage and the chapel of Saint-Jean-des-Balmes, crosses to Saint-André-de-Vézines, then heads south by Montméjean, the Rajol cliffs and the arch of Roquesaltes, and climbs onto the Larzac for the exposed corniches above the Dourbie.

After the Larzac the course drops down the Roubelier to Massebiau. From there it makes the long climb to the farm at Le Cade, drops down the technical CAF ravine, then goes up the rocky nose of the Pouncho d'Agast and through the grotte du Hibou to the finish. Peyreleau is a light aid station, and crews can't help there. Runners reaching Massebiau after 19:10 are sent back along the Dourbie's left bank, and the cutoff there is 19:30. From 20:40, runners at the Ravin du CAF go straight up the Pouncho, which cuts about an hour and a quarter.

The Intégrale starts at 6:30 and 6:50 on Friday in Peyreleau, the Grand Trail's first aid station. A short loop above the village spreads the field out, then come 2 km along the Jonte, the climb to the Saint-Michel hermitage and the corniche path above the gorge as day breaks. It passes La Roujarie on the way to Saint-André-de-Vézines, then takes the classic route to Millau by Montméjean, Roquesaltes, La Roque-Sainte-Marguerite and the Larzac, down the Roubelier ravine to Massebiau, up to Le Cade and over the Pouncho d'Agast.

Its only cutoff is at Saint-André, km 17.9, at 10:30. To reach the start, take the shuttle from the Stade in Millau on race morning, at 5:00 for the first wave or 5:20 for the second (€10, booked on your registration page). A bag left at the start is taken to the finish.

The organizer pitches the Boffi Fifty as a test before the Intégrale or the Grand Trail, and warns that its finish is very technical and rough, with a slow average pace. It starts on Saturday at 6:40 and 7:05 and follows the Marathon des Causses route: 2 km of road to Carbassas, the hard climb onto the Causse Noir, and forest tracks you can run to Lauglanou.

After Lauglanou it adds a wild loop by Longuiers and the great cliffs of the Boffi above the Dourbie gorges, rocky trail right under the cliffs that's hard to run. It comes down the Monna ravine, climbs to the farm at Le Cade for the last aid station and finishes over the Pouncho d'Agast. The roadbook's cutoffs are 10:35 at Lauglanou, 15:45 at the Ravin du Monna and 17:45 at Le Cade.

The Marathon des Causses starts at 12:10 and 12:35 on Saturday and stays on the Causse Noir: cliffs above the valleys, conifer forest and the ravines cut into the plateau. Tracks lead to technical trail above the Tarn, the Roc Pointu and the descent to La Cresse, then the ravine climbs back up through narrow rock gaps toward Lauglanou. After that the course drops off the Dourbie corniches toward Massebiau and climbs back by the Rocher Troué, and the last kilometers follow an airy corniche with the Millau Viaduct in view.

Cutoffs are at La Cresse (15:10) and Lauglanou (16:50). Runners who reach the P93 point, at km 26.6 after Le Cade, later than 18:10 are sent onto a 6 km fallback route. The last runners need a headlamp.

Registration

Entry is first come, first served, with no qualifying races and no lottery. Registration for 2026 opened on January 19, after presales for groups, a partner and local residents. The organizer says ten races filled in under ten minutes and 11,000 bibs were taken, and by late February it called the 2026 edition sold out.

You register and pay by card online, one runner at a time, and there's no entry on the day. Races over 21 km are open to runners aged 20 and over. If you don't hold an FFA running licence, you need a PPS health certificate from pps.athle.fr, and that goes for runners from abroad too.

The organizer refunds nothing itself. The cancellation insurance offered when you sign up pays back 80% under its own conditions. You can transfer your bib to another runner from your personal page before September 15, but you can't switch races. Collect your bib yourself, with ID, at the Salon du Trail from Thursday to Saturday. There's no pickup on Sunday, so Grand Trail runners get theirs by 19:00 on Saturday.

Getting to Millau

Millau is on the A75, a toll-free motorway, 110 km (about 1 h 20) from Montpellier and 180 km (2 h 30) from Toulouse. It has an SNCF station. The nearest TGV station is Montpellier, with buses on to Millau, and the closest airports are Rodez and Montpellier.

Every mapped race but the Intégrale starts at the Domaine de St-Estève, on the avenue de Millau-Plage, and they all finish there, next to the Salon du Trail. The roadbooks ask you to arrive 45 minutes to an hour before your start: the car parks are a 15 to 20 minute walk away, and shuttle lines 1 to 3 run to the race village. The organizer's Guide mobilité has the car park map and the timetables. Showers are at the Larribal campsite, about 15 minutes' walk from the finish.

Crewing

Crews may help only in the 50 m before an aid station the roadbook opens to them, and never at water points. Help anywhere else costs the runner a 20 minute penalty, and even with a crew you have to go through the aid station. On the Grand Trail the crew points are Saint-André-de-Vézines, La Salvage and Le Cade.

Many roads close for the race, so drive the routes in the roadbook. You reach La Salvage only by the free shuttle from the Camp du Larzac car park, a 5 km, 20 minute ride. On Saturday and Sunday the free line 5 shuttle runs to Le Cade from the rond-point du Confluent in Millau. On Grand Trail day a paid shuttle, line B (€10, booked ahead), runs from Millau to Saint-André. Bags left at the start are never taken to aid stations, so anything you want on course, your crew brings.

Poles aren't allowed from the Millau start to the top of the Côte de Carbassas on the Endurance Trail, Grand Trail, Boffi Fifty and Marathon des Causses. After that, your crew can hand them over at the aid stations.

Weather and what to carry

A limestone rock pinnacle above a village in the Gorges du Tarn

Millau's weather station, at 712 m, averages a low of 8.4°C and a high of 15.8°C in October, with 74.4 mm of rain on about eight days (Météo-France normals, 1991 to 2020).

Mandatory kit for these races is short: 0.75 l of water, your own cup and plate (the aid stations have no cups), and a headlamp with fresh batteries at the start of the Endurance Trail, the Intégrale and the Grand Trail. The last runners on the Boffi Fifty and the marathon need one too. If the forecast turns, the race director can add a waterproof jacket, long or three-quarter tights with long socks, and a cap, hat or buff. The roadbook also suggests a phone, a survival blanket and a whistle.

The courses cross grazing land. If you meet a patou, a sheepdog guarding a flock, stay calm, slow down and keep your distance from the flock.

Templiers FAQ

When is the Templiers 2026?

The festival runs from Thursday, October 15, to Sunday, October 18, 2026. The Endurance Trail and the Intégrale des Causses are on Friday the 16th, the Boffi Fifty and the Marathon des Causses on Saturday the 17th, and the Grand Trail des Templiers starts at 5:10 on Sunday the 18th.

How do you get a bib for the Grand Trail des Templiers?

Register online when entries open. There's no lottery and no qualifying race, so it's first come, first served. For 2026 that was January 19, and ten races filled in under ten minutes. There's no entry on race day.

Is the Templiers a Western States qualifier?

The Endurance Trail is. Finishing the 2026 race in under 19 hours lets you enter the lottery for the 2027 Western States Endurance Run. The organizer lists no qualifying standard for the other races.

Can crews help runners anywhere on the course?

No. Crews can help only in the 50 m before the aid stations the roadbook opens to them, never at water points, and at some stations, like Peyreleau on the Grand Trail, crews can't help at all. La Salvage is reached only by the race's shuttle from the Camp du Larzac car park.

Can you use poles at the Templiers?

Yes, except on the opening climb. On the Endurance Trail, Grand Trail, Boffi Fifty and Marathon des Causses, poles are banned from the start in Millau to the top of the Côte de Carbassas. After that, crews can only hand them over at the aid stations.

What other races are at the Festival des Templiers?

There are 18 in all. Besides the five mapped here: the Rock'Voizine (50.5 km, new in 2026, from Saint-André-de-Vézines), the Marathon du Larzac (33.5 km), the Monna Lisa (31.5 km), the Dourbie Formi (23 km), the VO2 Trail (17.8 km), the Trail des Troubadours (13.2 km), La Templière (7.7 km), and races for juniors, children and adapted sport.
