Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs course maps and aid stations

A 100 miler, a 100K, a 50K and a 23K from Carson City up into the Carson Range on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe.

July 17 to 18, 2027 Carson City, Nevada

The Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs start and finish in the baseball stadium at Western Nevada College in Carson City, at 4,888 feet. From there the three long courses climb straight up Ash Canyon to Snow Valley Peak, then run the Tahoe Rim Trail through the Spooner backcountry of Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park, with the lake on one side and Washoe Valley on the other. The 23K stays lower, on the trails above town.

The 2027 race is July 17 and 18. The map shows the 2026 courses and aid stations; the 2027 ones aren't out yet.

Your crew can't reach most of this course. Only Spooner Summit and Diamond Peak can be reached by car, Tunnel Creek is a steep hike in, and the organizer says the rest are deep in the backcountry. Tunnel Creek also sends you off in different directions on different visits. Download the map before you go, so you can see where you are and which way the next aid station is.

The 2026 course climbed 10 miles and 4,200 feet to Snow Valley Peak, dropped about 3,000 feet to Spooner Summit and came back up. Then it ran north on the Tahoe Rim Trail through Hobart and Tunnel Creek and plunged about 2,000 feet down the Tyrolean trail to Diamond Peak, in Incline Village. From the lodge you climb 1,700 feet in under 2 miles straight up the ski runs. You cover the Hobart to Diamond Peak stretch twice, with a turnaround at Snow Valley Peak in between, then leave Hobart for the last time down the Capital to Tahoe trail to the finish.

Fill up at Bull Wheel: it's 8.5 miles to Diamond Peak and the race says many runners run dry there. From the last Hobart it's 10 miles to Waterfall, then 7 more to the finish, with water at the Ash Canyon trailhead. In 2026 it started Saturday at 5 AM, and the hard cutoffs were 9 AM at Kick Ash, 10 PM at the first Diamond Peak, 8 AM Sunday at the second, 10 AM at the last Tunnel Creek and 5 PM at the finish.

The 100K joined the race in 2026. It takes the same climb to Snow Valley Peak as the 100 miler, then turns north for Hobart, Tunnel Creek and the drop to Diamond Peak at mile 29.5, the one aid station your crew can drive to and where a pacer can join you. From there you go back over the ski hill to Tunnel Creek and south to Hobart, run out and back to Snow Valley Peak, and take the Capital to Tahoe trail past Waterfall to the finish.

The leg from Hobart to Waterfall is 10 miles with no aid. In 2026 it started Saturday at 6 AM, and you had to be through Kick Ash by 9 AM and finish by 6 AM Sunday to be official. Only a finish inside 20 hours, by 2 AM, counted for Western States.

It's longer than the name says: 32.6 miles on the 2026 chart. You climb to Snow Valley Peak at mile 10, run down the Tahoe Rim Trail to Hobart, loop around Marlette Peak and back to Hobart, then follow the Capital to Tahoe trail 10 miles to Waterfall without aid. The last 7 miles drop into the valley heat.

There's no crew access and no drop bag service on the 50K. In 2026 it started Saturday at 6 AM, with a 9 AM cutoff at Kick Ash and a finish cutoff of 2 AM.

The 23K leaves the college on singletrack, turns onto the Ash to Kings trail and climbs to the Waterfall aid station, its turnaround and high point. Then you come back down the same way and finish on Bob's Trail. There's a water stop near Ash Canyon on the way up and again on the way down. The organizer's 2026 file for it measures 23.6 km, about 14.7 miles.

The descent is exposed, and the race warns it gets into the 90s by midday. There's no GPS tracking on the 23K and no drop bags. In 2026 it started at 7 AM.

Registration

Registration for 2027 opens December 6, 2026 on UltraSignup. The organizer says it fills quickly and a lot of runners end up on the waitlist.

The 100 mile has an entry standard, met by the time you register. For 2026 it was a 50 miler under 15 hours, a 100K under 22 hours or a finished 100 mile trail race, run since July 1, 2023. You also owe 8 hours of real trail building or maintenance, with the form in by July 1. Miss that and you're moved to the 100K with no refund. The 100K and 50K have no standard.

In 2026 you could get a refund until March 31, minus a $30 fee. Entries can't be transferred, and deferrals are only for a military deployment or a death in the family.

Getting there

Carson City is about 30 miles south of Reno, and Reno-Tahoe International Airport is 28 miles away. The start and finish are in the John L. Harvey Baseball Stadium at Western Nevada College, 2201 W College Pkwy, with parking at the college.

In 2026 packet pickup was at the college on Friday from 9 AM to 3:30 PM, with drop bags due by 3 PM. The 100 mile briefing at 4 PM was mandatory. You can't camp at the college, in Spooner Lake State Park or at Diamond Peak, so book a room in town.

Crew and pacers

100 mile crews can drive to two aid stations: Spooner Summit, a walk down from the Spooner Lake parking (in 2026 a day pass was $10 for Nevada plates and $15 for others), and the Diamond Peak lodge in Incline Village. For the 100K it's Diamond Peak only, and 50K and 23K runners can't be crewed on course.

At Diamond Peak, park in the lower lot, never on Ski Way, and help your runner only inside the aid station: crewing up the road in Tyrolean Village gets your runner disqualified. Tunnel Creek is 3.5 miles and 1,800 feet up from the parking lots on Highway 28. Crews may hike up, but they aren't allowed in the aid station itself and have to help you within 100 yards of it.

Pacers are allowed for the 100 mile and 100K, from Diamond Peak only, one at a time. They sign a waiver, get a bib there and can't carry anything for you. Leave dogs at home: they aren't allowed at the aid stations or the finish.

Weather and kit

July in Carson City averages a high of 89.5°F and a low of 54.8°F (NOAA), with less than a fifth of an inch of rain. Up on the course, which averages about 8,000 feet, the race says nights can fall into the low 30s even in July, and the exposed ridges get strong wind. Leave warm clothes and a spare light in a drop bag for the night, and expect the mid 90s and under 10% humidity on the way down to the finish.

The race calls lightning the most dangerous thing on the course. It may shut the course if a severe storm is coming, and tells you to get 200 to 500 feet off a ridge if lightning is close. Don't shelter under the aid station tents, whose frames are metal. For wildfire smoke, it won't consider canceling until the air quality index reaches 200.

Tahoe Rim Trail FAQ

When is the Tahoe Rim Trail 100 in 2027?

July 17 and 18, 2027, from Western Nevada College in Carson City, with the 100 mile, 100K, 50K and 23K. Registration opens December 6, 2026. The 2027 start times aren't out: in 2026 the 100 mile started Saturday at 5 AM, the 100K and 50K at 6 AM and the 23K at 7 AM.

Is the Tahoe Rim Trail 100 a Western States qualifier?

Yes. The 2027 100 mile counts if you finish inside its 36 hour limit, and the 100K if you finish within 20 hours, even though its official cutoff was 24 hours in 2026. Both are on the qualifier list for the 2028 Western States lottery.

How hard is the Tahoe Rim Trail 100?

The 2026 course was 101 miles with 17,949 feet of climbing. It starts at the low point, 4,888 feet, and tops out just below 9,214 foot Snow Valley Peak, whose aid station you reach three times. The course averages about 8,000 feet, and the race warns that the last 17 miles are very demanding and need at least 2 liters of fluids.

Do you have to qualify for the Tahoe Rim Trail 100?

Yes, and you have to do trail work as well. For 2026 you needed a 50 miler under 15 hours, a 100K under 22 hours or any 100 mile trail finish, plus 8 hours of trail maintenance before July 1. UltraSignup says the 100K and 50K have no entry standard.

Can you have a pacer at the Tahoe Rim Trail 100?

On the 100 mile and 100K, from Diamond Peak only: miles 41.5 and 74 on the 2026 100 mile chart, and mile 29.5 on the 100K. One pacer at a time, with a pacer bib and a signed waiver.

Where can crews meet runners at the Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs?

At the start and finish, and at Spooner Summit and Diamond Peak for 100 milers. 100K crews get Diamond Peak only, and the 50K and 23K have no crew access on course. Tunnel Creek is a 3.5 mile hike up from Highway 28.
