September 16 to 18, 2027 Snowbasin Resort, near Ogden, Utah

Snowbasin by UTMB is a UTMB World Series race at Snowbasin Resort, in the Wasatch Range just outside Ogden. The resort hosted alpine events at the 2002 Winter Olympics and will again in 2034. The race was first run in September 2026, when 609 runners from 27 countries started and 581 finished.

Both courses start and finish at the Plaza, at the base of the resort. The 58K runs on Saturday. The 28K, which loops the resort on its singletrack, moves to Friday in 2027. The map shows the 2026 courses and aid stations, which the organizer says may change for 2027.

The race guide warns that cell and satellite coverage is limited, enough to delay runner tracking by up to two hours. Download the course map before you go. GPS shows where you are without a signal.

This is an unofficial guide: Goat Maps isn't affiliated with Snowbasin by UTMB. Check the official site before you enter or race.

The 2026 chart gives the 58K 5,759 feet of climbing (the race page rounds it to 5,800), through sagebrush, aspen and fir, with views over Ogden and the Great Salt Lake. The first 10 miles are mostly uphill: you gain about 2,900 feet to Needles and pass it twice, 1.3 miles apart. From there you drop nearly 2,400 feet over 7.3 miles to Maples, by the parking lots at the base.

The last gap is the longest: from Pre Sardine, a water-only stop at mile 27.8, it's 8.3 miles and almost 1,600 feet of climbing to the finish, so fill up there. The stops and cutoffs are from the 2026 chart and may change for 2027.

The 28K climbs over 2,400 feet on what the organizer calls the best singletrack at Snowbasin, through forests and meadows under craggy peaks as it circles the resort. Its first three stops are the 58K's, at the same miles, up to Needles at mile 10.2. Then it's 6.8 miles back to the Plaza with no aid.

In 2026 the 28K started at 8:30 AM on Saturday, and runners had to leave Needles by 1:00 PM and finish by 4:00 PM, a 7.5 hour limit. In 2027 it starts Friday at 8:30 AM and the race page lists a 7 hour limit, so check the cutoffs nearer the race. The stops shown are from 2026.

Registration

Entry is through UTMB. Registration for 2027 hadn't opened when this page was checked in October 2026, and the race's register page was taking sign-ups for a notice when it does. For 2026, priority registration was set to open on February 10, with general registration on February 12. Online entry closed on September 6, the Sunday before the race, unless a race sold out first, and there's no race day registration.

Entries can't be refunded or transferred, but you can defer once to the next year for any reason. You must be 18 for the 58K and 16 for the 28K.

Getting to Snowbasin

The resort puts itself 45 minutes from Salt Lake City International Airport and 23 minutes from Ogden-Hinckley Airport. From Salt Lake City, take I-15 north, US 89 north at exit 324, then I-84 east to the Mountain Green exit (92). Snowbasin is 8 miles from Mountain Green on SR 167, Trappers Loop. The address is 3925 E. Snowbasin Road, Huntsville.

In 2026 bib pick-up and the runner briefings were at the Ogden Amphitheater on 25th Street, downtown, on the two days before the race, with a last chance at the resort on race morning. On race day everyone parks at the Maples lots, a short walk from the start.

Crews and spectators

Neither race allows crews, and no aid station takes drop bags, so carry what you need from the start. Needles, at mile 10.2 of both races, is a good place for friends to watch: it sits just below the top of the Needles Gondola. In 2026 every runner's bag held a gondola ticket for one spectator, which also got them into the resort's SnowWeisn festival. Maples, at mile 18.8 of the 58K, is in a corner of the parking lot, within walking distance of the finish.

Tracking is LiveTrail splits at timing points, not GPS, and not every aid station reports.

Weather and kit

September in Huntsville, in Ogden Valley at 5,140 feet, averages highs around 79°F and lows around 39°F, by NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals. The resort base is nearly 1,200 feet higher, and the course climbs well above that. The race guide warns that the weather this time of year runs from hot to snow on the summits, and the organizer can make a hot or cold weather kit mandatory.

In 2026 the 58K's mandatory kit was a phone, a collapsible cup, 1 liter of water, 800 kcal of food, a whistle and a survival blanket, with a headlamp, a hooded jacket, gloves and a hat recommended. The 28K's was the cup, half a liter of water, a phone, a whistle and a survival blanket. The 58K started at 7 AM, right at sunrise in 2026, and the race kept a bucket at Green Pond for headlamps runners didn't want to carry.

Snowbasin FAQ

When is Snowbasin by UTMB 2027?

September 16 to 18, 2027. The 28K starts on Friday, September 17, at 8:30 AM, and the 58K on Saturday, September 18, at 7 AM. The first edition, in 2026, ran both races on Saturday, September 12.

Will the Snowbasin course be the same in 2027?

Not necessarily. The GPX files and aid station charts on the race's site are the 2026 ones, marked as subject to change for 2027, and they're what the map here shows.

Can you have a crew at Snowbasin by UTMB?

No. Neither distance allows crew, and there are no drop bags at any aid station. Spectators can see you at Needles by taking the gondola, at Maples on the 58K, and at the finish.

How many Running Stones do you get at Snowbasin?

2 for the 58K and 1 for the 28K. The top three women and top three men in the 58K also get a place in the OCC at the UTMB World Series Finals, though they still pay for the bib.

What is the Wasatch Challenge?

Finish Speedgoat Mountain Races by UTMB and Snowbasin by UTMB in the same year and you are a Wasatch Challenge finisher. You get a special bib for race weekend and a commemorative medal at the Snowbasin finish.

Is there cell service on the Snowbasin course?

Not much. The race guide says limited cell and satellite coverage can delay runner tracking by up to two hours, though you still have to carry a phone. Download the map before race day so it works offline.
