The 2026 route started at 9 AM on Saturday 15 August in Talas, a start the race had used only once before. The organizer called it the longest route yet, with the most climbing by a good margin, though a little less exploration than in 2025.
The biggest new piece is about 150 km of rarely travelled country from Baetov to the military checkpoint before Torugart. It's all rideable, if steep in places. Later there's a hike up and over Ukok pass, past Kok-Ulok lake, and the run to the finish crosses the Kegeti and Kok-Ayrik passes before dropping to Cholpon-Ata.
Son-Kul, the first checkpoint, is 564 km in and about 3,020 m up. From there it's about 480 km more to the yurt camp at Kel-Suu, near the Chinese border. The third checkpoint is a guesthouse in Tamga, on the shore of Issyk-Kul.
