Ultra-Trail Shudao course maps and aid stations

Four races on the old Shu Roads of northern Sichuan, from a Sunday 20K out of Zhaohua to a 100K that starts on Friday night in Jiange.

November 6 to 8, 2026 Guangyuan, Sichuan, China

Ultra-Trail Shudao is a UTMB World Series race in Guangyuan, in the north of Sichuan, on the Shu Roads, the old mountain roads between Shaanxi and Sichuan. It was first run in November 2025.

The 100K starts at 9 PM on Friday in Jiange and runs point to point, past the twin peaks of Jianmen Pass and the old cypresses of Cuiyun Corridor, to Zhaohua Ancient Town. The 70K, 50K and 20K start and finish in Zhaohua on Saturday and Sunday. Expect flagstone post roads and bamboo forest trails, with the highest ground at about 1,100 m.

A GPS device is on the 100K, 70K and 50K kit lists, and every course needs a smartphone; switching it off or into airplane mode costs 15 minutes. The rules also say that if you can't see a way marker, turn back. Put the course map on your phone before you go. GPS shows you where you are on it with or without a signal.

You leave Dashudao Buye Sanguo Town at 9 PM, so the first few aid stations come in the dark. The course goes west and south through the hills to Shuhan Courier Station, turns east through Cuiyun Corridor, heads north to the south gate of Jianmen Pass, then runs northeast to Zhaohua. The race page's headline says 104 km and 3,800 m. Its aid station table finishes at 97.1 km with 3,709 m of climbing, and those are the numbers here. The map is the GPX posted in August 2026.

Shuhan, at km 44.9, has your drop bag and is the first place your crew can meet you. Jianmen Pass, at km 65.6, is the second. The longest gap is the last climb: 12.1 km and 561 m up from Gaomiaopu to Shanshui Rural Family Inn. The GPX marks an extra station at Dachaoyi on that stretch, which the race page's table doesn't list.

It starts at 7:30 AM Saturday and climbs to Niutou Village, then onto the old Shu Road: flagstones worn smooth, with old cypresses on either side. You pass the Dachao post station and follow the river up to Chaoyang Village on the ridge. From Gaomiaopu you're on the 100K course for the last 21 km into Zhaohua.

The longest gap is Chaoyang to Gaomiaopu, 14.3 km with 568 m of climbing. The GPX marks a supply point at Hejiaba on that stretch that the race page's table doesn't list. The table dates its three middle cutoffs in December, so we've left them out. The race page gives 70.5 km and 3,100 m, the aid station table 71.6 km and 3,167 m.

The 50K in the name is its UTMB category. The course is 42 km and 1,900 m on the race page, 42.4 km and 1,885 m in the aid station table. It starts at 9 AM Saturday and follows the 70K out to Niutou and Dachaoyi, then turns north to Shanshui Rural Family Inn and drops 9.2 km to the finish. The organizer's description names the Jiameng battlefield, the old caravan stop at Dachao and the Red Army slogans on Liujiayan cliff.

The finish closes at 11 PM. The table's two middle cutoffs fall on a Monday in December at times that fit neither race day, so they're left out; check the race guide.

It starts at 7:30 AM Sunday with 7 hours to finish. The climbing is in the first 13 km: 429 m to Zhongjunzhang at km 8.2, then 358 m more to Niutou. From there it's 9 km and 557 m down into Zhaohua. The race page says 21.5 km and 900 m, the kit list 22.4 km, and the aid station table 22.3 km and 881 m. The table dates its two middle cutoffs in December, so they aren't shown here.

Registration

Entries for 2026 have closed. The race site showed all four races closed when we checked, and the Chinese entry window ran from March 5 to May 31, with a lottery for any race that had more applicants than places. To enter, you make a MyUTMB account and complete your profile first. Residents of China register on a separate Chinese platform linked from the registrations page; everyone else uses UTMB's international registration.

Getting to Guangyuan

Guangyuan Panlong Airport (GYS) is 15 km from Zhaohua, about 20 minutes by car, and 60 km from Jiange. From Chengdu's airports, take the high-speed train to Guangyuan Station, about 1.5 hours; the fastest trains from Chengdu East take 1 hour 10 minutes, and Chongqing North is about 2.5 hours. Guangyuan Station is a 25-minute taxi ride (20 km) from Zhaohua and about an hour (50 km) from Jiange. By car it's about 3 hours from Chengdu on the G5 and about 4 from Chongqing on the G85.

The organizer runs shuttles, booked through a QR code on its travel page. Book one if you're running the 100K, which starts in Jiange and finishes in Zhaohua. The race site lists hotels in Zhaohua and Jiange and recommends booking early.

Crew and drop bags

Only the 100K has crew points, at Shuhan Courier Station (km 44.9) and the south gate of Jianmen Pass (km 65.6), and Shuhan has the drop bag. The UTMB rules allow one helper per runner, in the area set aside for it, who can hand you a bag of up to 30 liters. There are no pacers: nobody can run with you outside the marked zones near the aid stations. The assistance zone runs from 500 m before a station to 500 m after it.

Aid stations hand out no cups or cutlery, so bring your own; portable tableware is on every course's kit list. If you start with poles you carry them to the finish, and they can't go in your drop bag.

Weather and kit

Guangyuan, at 545 m, averages a high of 16.2°C and a low of 8.7°C in November, with 19.3 mm of rain over about 7 days (China Meteorological Administration normals, 1991 to 2020). The courses climb to about 1,100 m, the 100K runs through the night, and the 70K's finish stays open until 2:30 AM.

The 100K and 70K kit lists include a hooded waterproof jacket with taped seams, waterproof trousers, a long-sleeve thermal top, full-finger gloves, a GPS device, a smartphone with a 10,000 mAh power bank, at least 1 liter of water, 800 kcal of food, a survival blanket of at least 1.3 by 2.1 m, a whistle and a first aid kit. The 100K needs two headlamps, the 70K one. The 50K list is close to the 70K's, with full-length running pants instead of waterproof trousers and a 5,000 mAh power bank. The 20K needs no jacket or headlamp, and 500 kcal of food.
