Salzkammergut Trophy course maps and cutoffs

Seven mountain bike marathons and three gravel races from Bad Goisern, between the Hallstätter See, the Gosau valley and Bad Ischl.

July 17, 2027 Bad Goisern, Upper Austria

The Salzkammergut Trophy has been run from Bad Goisern am Hallstättersee since 1998. The organizer calls it the hardest mountain bike marathon in Austria, and its A course, 201.9 km with 7,020 m of climbing, the hardest in Europe. There are seven MTB courses, from 21.8 km to 201.9 km, plus three gravel races. Every MTB course starts on the Marktplatz in Bad Goisern except the C, which starts in Obertraun, and all of them finish on the Marktplatz.

The courses use public roads, forest roads and bike paths, and the organizer says they're well signposted. Most of the route is signed and open for training from early July, but the sections drawn in pink on the course plan can only be ridden on race weekend. Download the map before a training ride, so you can follow the course where it isn't signed.

This page covers the A, B, C and D courses. The map, distances, cutoffs and time limits are from the 2026 edition; the 2027 ones aren't out yet.

The organizer's line for the A course is "Einmal Hölle und zurück", to hell and back. It covers every section of the Trophy, A to Z on the course plan: up the Raschberg and past the Hütteneckalm to the Predigstuhl and the Ewige Wand, down to Weißenbach, over to the salt mine above Altaussee and the Salzberg at Bad Ischl. After a second pass through Weißenbach it runs along the Hallstätter See to Obertraun, climbs to the Roßalm and drops to the Gosausee, then comes back through Gosau to Bad Goisern. About a quarter of it is tarmac, 62 percent gravel and 13 percent trail, and the organizer rates it 4 of 4 for difficulty.

In 2026 it started at 5 AM and the finish closed at 9 PM, with time limits at Weißenbach, Halleralm (a time check only, with no aid station), the Goiserer Brücke and Gosau Hintertal. If you miss the last one, you're sent down to the Gosau Sportzentrum, where a sweep bus takes you back to Bad Goisern if you want. You must take your bike to the bike check before you can collect your number. Manuel Pliem won the 2026 race in 8:47:20 and Bianca Somavilla in 11:32:11.

The B course takes the A course's first climbs, over the Raschberg and past the Hütteneckalm and the Predigstuhl to Weißenbach, then joins its last section along the Hallstätter See and through Gosau. The organizer calls it a very demanding marathon with many of the A course's highlights, and rates it 2 to 3 of 4.

In 2026 it started at 9 AM in three blocks five minutes apart, and you picked your block by the time you expected to ride: under 7:15, under 8:45, or slower. The time limits were 1 PM at the Goiserer Brücke and 5:45 PM at Gosau Hintertal, and the finish closed at 9 PM. The 2026 race report puts the Obertraun checkpoint at km 52.4.

The C course is the only MTB course that doesn't start in Bad Goisern. It starts in Obertraun and rides the A course's last section: up from the Echerntal to the Roßalm, down to the Gosausee, through Gosau and back to the Marktplatz in Bad Goisern. The organizer promises postcard views of the Dachstein and the Gosaukamm. It's 65 percent gravel and rated 2 of 4.

In 2026 it started at 10:15 AM in three blocks three minutes apart, and the finish closed at 8 PM. A bus took riders from Bad Goisern to the start, and C riders could also collect their numbers in Obertraun on race morning. A minibus took clothes and bags from the start back to Bad Goisern.

The organizer calls the All-Mountain course the most technically difficult on the Trophy, and rates it 4 of 4. A fifth of it is trail. From Bad Goisern it climbs over the Raschberg and past the Hütteneckalm to the Predigstuhl, then takes the Törl Trail and the Salzberg above Bad Ischl, about 37 km in, before coming back through Weißenbach.

In 2026 it started in Bad Goisern at noon, with a time limit of 3 PM at the Berghotel Predigstuhl at km 33 and the finish at 7 PM.

Registration and fees

Registration for 2027 is open on the organizer's site. The organizer recommends a laptop or PC, since the form isn't built for phones. Pay within three days, by bank transfer or online at the end of the form. You can also enter in person while numbers are handed out in Bad Goisern.

In 2026, fees went up for payments from 1 March and again from 1 May. If you entered and paid by 28 June you got a personalised number, and later entries weren't placed in the start grid. Your course choice is binding. Moving up a distance before 28 June costs the difference, and moving down gives the difference to DEBRA's "butterfly children" charity. From 29 June there's a €10 change fee on top.

The Trophy counts towards several cup series, and season passes for the MarathonMan series, the KTM Mountainbike Challenge, the Marathon-Challenge and the Austria Top Tour include it.

The E, F and G courses and the gravel races

The E course, 54.9 km with 1,719 m of climbing, has a view down the valley from the Ewige Wand. The 2026 race report puts the Weißenbachwirt at km 31.9. The F course, 37.3 km and 1,044 m, also takes in the Ewige Wand and the Weißenbach valley. The G course, 21.8 km and 567 m, is an easy ride along the Traun and into the Weißenbach valley. All three are rated 2 of 4 and start in Bad Goisern.

The gravel races are for gravel bikes only, with tyres at least 32 mm wide. In 2026, Gravel.one (93.3 km, 2,141 m) started in Bad Ischl and rode to Obertraun, then followed the C course without its start loop or the steep climb to the Hallstätter Salzberg. It had a 5 PM time limit at km 56.8. Gravel.two (54.5 km, 1,236 m) also started in Bad Ischl, on easy roads. Gravel.three follows the G course.

Getting to Bad Goisern

The organizer puts Salzburg airport about 60 km from Bad Goisern, and Linz airport about 90 km. The Salzkammergut railway stops at Bad Goisern, Bad Ischl and Obertraun, and each station is 350 to 600 m from that town's start. In 2026, riders driving in could park along the B145 through Bad Goisern from Friday 11 AM to Sunday 6 PM, and in Bad Ischl and Obertraun the organizer pointed them to public parking.

In 2026 a shared taxi ran from Gosau, Obertraun and Hallstatt to Bad Goisern from 4 AM on race day, €10 a person with the bike free, and back until 9 PM. A coach took riders and bikes from Bad Goisern to the Obertraun and Bad Ischl starts for €5.

Aid stations, crews and what to carry

The aid stations have bananas, melons, dried fruit, nuts, bread with lard, pastries with salami and cheese, gingerbread from Bad Aussee, cake, waffles, salt, water, Powerbar IsoActive, cola, juice and Red Bull with water. Five service stations have mechanics for small fixes, with spare tubes for €5 and CO2 cartridges for €3. Clothes you leave at an aid station go back to the lost and found in the Volksschule.

Your crew can hand you food, clothes, parts and tools, and help with repairs, only at the ten assistance points marked AP1 to AP10 on the course plan. A crew that drives on the course gets its rider disqualified. Drop bottles and wrappers only inside the signed feed zones: marshals riding as racers disqualify litterers without a warning. To drop out, report to a marshal, and don't ride through the finish.

The organizer suggests two 0.75 l bottles, two spare tubes (three or four on the long courses), a pump or CO2, a multitool with 4, 5 and 6 mm keys, a chain tool, some cash, a rain jacket and sunscreen. It also recommends carrying a phone, set to silent.
