Trail du Saint-Jacques 2027 course maps

Five races through the Haute-Loire on and around the Way of St James, all finishing in Le Puy-en-Velay after a last climb to the cathedral.

June 18 to 20, 2027 Le Puy-en-Velay, Haute-Loire, France

The Trail du Saint-Jacques has run since 2012 on and around the GR65, the Way of St James out of Le Puy-en-Velay. The 2027 edition runs June 18 to 20. Every race finishes in Le Puy after a last climb to the cathedral of Notre-Dame du Puy.

The 100M starts in Saugues on Friday evening and heads north to Prades, on the Allier, before turning for Le Puy. The 100K and the 50K start at Monistrol-d'Allier, on the river. The 20K starts at Solignac-sur-Loire and the 12 du Dolaizon at Saint-Christophe-sur-Dolaizon, both much closer to town.

The map shows the 2026 courses, which are the files the race pages carry now; the 2027 GPX isn't out yet. The course is marked with reflective markers and no paint, and the rule book says to turn back if you can't see any. Load the course in Goat Maps and your phone's GPS will show you whether you're still on it.

This is an unofficial guide: Goat Maps isn't affiliated with Trail du Saint-Jacques by UTMB. Check the official site before you enter or race.

The Ultra has been part of the event since 2016. You leave Saugues at 7 PM on Friday and head for Prades, on the Allier. On the 2026 course the first night took you from Saint-Julien-des-Chazes, 533 m, up to the top of the Durande, 1,283 m, then down to Prades at 545 m. The organizer also names Col de Pierre Taillée, Mont Recours, Lac du Bouchet and Mont Eycenac, and the top of the course is Mont Devès, about 1,420 m, at km 112.

The first stop with food is Lespitalet at km 24.7. Saint-Julien before it has only drinks, and the 17.8 km from Saugues to Saint-Julien is the longest stretch of the race. Lespitalet to Prades, over the Durande, is 16.1 km. Later, Alleyras to Lac du Bouchet is 15.5 km, and Lac du Bouchet to Bains, which has drinks only, is 15.8 km with Mont Devès in between. Your drop bag waits at Saint-Jean-Lachalm, km 72.7. The distances and stops shown are the 2026 course's: the race page bills it at 140 km and 6,000 m of climbing.

The Grand Trail starts beside the Eiffel metal bridge at Monistrol-d'Allier and goes straight up to the Chapelle de Rochegude. From there it takes in the Allier gorges, Lac du Bouchet, Mont Devès and the scree of the Chibottes before the climb to the cathedral.

You start at 7:40 AM on Saturday with 18 hours to finish. On the 2026 course, Alleyras to Lac du Bouchet was 16 km, the longest gap, and Lac du Bouchet to the drinks at Bains another 15.8 km over Mont Devès. The page bills it at 88 km and 3,600 m; the 2026 course data ends at 86.6 km.

The Monistrail draws more runners than any other race of the event. It starts on Sunday at 7:30 AM in Monistrol-d'Allier, gives you 2 km to spread out, then climbs to the Chapelle de Rochegude. After Saint-Privat-d'Allier it drops into the Rouchoux canyon, and late in the race it climbs Mont Devès, about 1,420 m, before the Chibottes and the finish climb to the cathedral.

Its Bains drinks station sits about a kilometer from the one the longer races use. The race page bills 55 km and 2,100 m; the 2026 course data ends at 53.9 km, and the limit is 11 hours 30.

Les Chibottes has been a few kilometers longer since 2025 and now covers 28 km with 750 m of climbing. It leaves Solignac-sur-Loire at 7 AM on Sunday on easy, mostly uphill paths, then crosses the Loire on the Planche de Mélussac and climbs the Serre de la Fare above the Loire gorges.

After the Charentus aid station the course goes through the Valhory tunnel, steep uphill, to Le Riou. The last 10 km take in Eycenac, the Chibottes and the climb to the cathedral before a run through the old town to the finish. The limit is 6 hours.

The 12 du Dolaizon started in 2025. It goes off at 6:45 PM on Saturday, straight onto the GR65, then detours to the suspension bridge over the Dolaizon, built in 2023 for the race. The only aid station on the way is in the Chibottes park, a technical stretch. From there you run down into Le Puy-en-Velay and climb to the cathedral for the finish in the upper town. The limit is 2 hours 30.

Registration

Registration for 2027 opened on August 11, 2026, with no lottery and no pre-registration. For the first 48 hours only runners with a UTMB Index could enter. After that it stayed open to everyone until each race sold out, and there's no waiting list. When this page was checked, the 100K, 50K and 20K were sold out, and the 100M and the 12 du Dolaizon were still open.

Fees rise in steps as bibs go: 220 to 260 € for the 100M, 150 to 185 € for the 100K, 105 to 135 € for the 50K, 40 to 55 € for the 20K and 25 € for the 12 du Dolaizon, plus an 8% administration fee. Every entry includes the ride from Le Puy to your start.

You can't transfer a bib to another runner or defer it to the next year, even when injured. You can move down to a shorter race until four weeks before the event. Your entry is only confirmed once you add a PPS code to your MyUTMB account. You get it by doing the French athletics federation's online health course, three months before the race.

Getting to Le Puy-en-Velay

Every race finishes in Le Puy-en-Velay, and entry includes the organizer's transport from there out to your start. The closest big airport is Lyon-Saint-Exupéry, about 148 km northeast. Le Puy-Loudes airport is 12 km northwest of town. TER trains run to Le Puy from Saint-Étienne-Châteaucreux and from Clermont-Ferrand.

After the finish, bags are handed back at the Quincieux gymnasium, less than a kilometer from the line. The event's travel partner is Nirvana, and the Le Puy tourist office keeps a list of places to stay.

Crewing and pacing

In the 100M and 100K, one person can help you at the aid stations that allow it, in an area set aside for crews. On the 100M the 2026 course data marks Prades, Monistrol-d'Allier, Saint-Privat-d'Allier, Saint-Jean-Lachalm, Lac du Bouchet and Saint-Christophe-sur-Dolaizon; the 100K has the same stations from Saint-Privat on. The 50K's course data marks crew access too, at Saint-Privat-d'Allier, Saint-Jean-Lachalm and Saint-Christophe-sur-Dolaizon. Your crew can hand you a bag of up to 30 liters and help with small things like a blister or a massage while you sit.

The crew zone runs from 500 m before an aid station to 500 m after it. Pacers aren't allowed: running with anyone outside the marked zones near aid stations earns a time penalty.

Weather and kit

In June, Le Puy-en-Velay averages highs of 21.0°C and lows of 8.4°C, with about 69 mm of rain over eight or so wet days (1981 to 2010). The 100M runs through the night, so pack for a cold few hours. Depending on the forecast, the organizer can make a hot weather kit mandatory, with 2 liters of water, sunglasses, sunscreen and a cap that covers your neck, or a bad weather kit with warm, waterproof layers.

The 100M's basic kit includes two headlamps with spare power, 1 liter of water, a hooded waterproof jacket, a survival blanket and a phone running the race's tracking app. The 100K needs one headlamp. Keep the phone on: in the 100M and 100K, turning it off or into airplane mode costs 15 minutes. If you start without poles, you can't pick them up later.

Saint-Jacques FAQ

When is the Trail du Saint-Jacques 2027?

June 18 to 20, 2027. The 100M starts in Saugues on Friday the 18th at 7 PM. On Saturday the 100K leaves Monistrol-d'Allier at 7:40 AM and the 12 du Dolaizon starts at 6:45 PM. On Sunday the 20K starts at 7 AM and the 50K at 7:30 AM.

How many Running Stones do you get at the Trail du Saint-Jacques?

4 for the 100M, 3 for the 100K, 2 for the 50K and 1 for the 20K. The 12 du Dolaizon page lists none.

Is the Trail du Saint-Jacques sold out?

When this page was checked in October 2026, the 100K, 50K and 20K were sold out with no waiting list, and the 100M and the 12 du Dolaizon were still open.

Can you have a pacer at the Trail du Saint-Jacques?

No. Running with anyone who isn't registered is only tolerated in the marked zones near aid stations. One crew member can meet you at the aid stations that allow it: six on the 100M, four on the 100K and three on the 50K, going by the 2026 course data.

Where is the drop bag in the 100M?

At Saint-Jean-Lachalm, km 72.7 on the 2026 course, and then at the finish. In the other races your bag goes straight to the finish.

When is the Trail du Saint-Jacques GPX released?

Close to race week. In 2026 the organizer's FAQ said the GPX would be on the race pages from Thursday, June 11. The map on this page uses the 2026 files the race pages carry now, and the 2027 cutoffs aren't published yet.
