Restonica Trail and Ultra-Trail di Corsica aid stations

Races out of Corte into the mountains of central Corsica, from a Friday evening 17K to a 110K over Bocca Crucetta.

July 8 to 10, 2027 Corte, Corsica

The Restonica Trail by UTMB is a UTMB World Series event in Corte, in the middle of Corsica. The courses climb straight out of town into the mountains above the Tavignanu and Restonica valleys, past shepherds' huts and glacial lakes, on steep, rocky trail.

The 2027 edition runs July 8 to 10: the 110K Ultra-Trail di Corsica starts on Thursday night, the 17K Giru di Tumbone on Friday evening, and the 69K Restonica Trail and 33K Tavignanu Trail on Saturday. The organizer has also announced a new 52 km race, the Pianu Maiò, for Wednesday July 7, through the villages of central Corsica; its route isn't out yet, so it isn't on the map.

The organizer only releases the GPX a few days before the race, because the courses cross private land, so please stay off them outside race day. The maps here draw the 2026 courses with their aid stations and the cutoffs from the race pages.

This is an unofficial guide: Goat Maps isn't affiliated with Restonica Trail by UTMB. Check the official site before you enter or race.

The 110K starts on Cours Paoli at 11 PM on Thursday and opens with what the organizer calls an intense 1,400 m ascent. From Calacuccia it crosses Bocca Crucetta, at over 2,400 m the course's high point, close to Monte Cintu, the highest summit on the island. The way home passes Lac de Ninu and the Capitellu and Melu lakes before the long descent into Corte. You get 48 hours, and the organizer says it's for experienced trail runners.

Bocca Capizzolu and Bocca a Soglia have drinks only, and so does Tragone. The longest gap is Ciattarinu to Inzecche, about 15 km. Crews can meet you at Calacuccia and Ciattarinu, and Ciattarinu is also the drop bag. These are the 2026 course's aid stations, since the 2027 course isn't published yet.

The Restonica Trail climbs out of Corte past the Padule sheepfolds, then crosses to Lac de Ninu, with its high wetlands called pozzines, and the Camputile plateau. From Bocca alle Porte, at about 2,225 m, you look down on the Capitellu and Melu lakes. Expect technical descents and hard climbs all day.

The 2027 race page lists a 2 AM start, which is when the 2026 race left after the organizer moved it from 4:30 AM ahead of an afternoon storm. The page's cutoffs at Aleri and Inzecche match that start, two hours and twenty minutes earlier than in the 2026 rules. The 2027 program isn't out, so check the times before you book. In 2025 a storm forecast put the race on a shorter alternative route. The aid stations listed here are from 2026.

The Tavignanu Trail leaves the town and goes straight into what the organizer gives as a 6.2 km, 1,400 m climb, with the Tavignanu valley and Monte Rotondo range below. It passes the Scandulaghju arch and the Padule sheepfolds, crosses Bocca Canaglia at 1,790 m, then takes a technical descent to the Sega refuge at 1,100 m. After the Cogna sheepfolds a forest trail leads on, and the finish goes through the old town and past the citadel.

The 2026 course has two aid stations, at Aleri and Alzu. The race page lists a 5:30 AM start for 2027, an hour earlier than the 2026 program's 6:30 AM.

The shortest race starts at 6 PM on Friday from the town hall roundabout. It follows the old Mare a Mare Nord mule track up onto the ridges of Monte Tumbone, past the San Rocco chapel, with views over Corte and the Rotondu massif. The one aid station on the 2026 course, Stade, is also marked on the race page as a meeting point for supporters. The way back is a fun descent through a chestnut grove, then flatter ground into the old town.

The organizer pitches it at newcomers, and it's the one race open from age 18.

Registration

Entry is open to anyone, through UTMB's registration site, and registration for 2027 wasn't open when this page was checked. Every race needs a French athletics (FFA) licence or a PPS certificate, from an online health course run by the FFA that's available in English. The PPS must be done within the 3 months before the race, and its code goes into your MyUTMB account.

In 2026 registration closed on June 30, with no entries on site. Entries can't be transferred or deferred, even after an injury. Cancellation insurance, bought when you register, can get your fee back for the reasons its terms cover.

Getting to Corte

Corte is in the middle of the island, on the railway between Bastia and Ajaccio. The Corsican railway is a race partner: show your registration email and the train to Corte from Ajaccio, Bastia, Île Rousse or Calvi is free, and companions get 20% off at the station ticket office. In the summer 2026 timetable the trains from Bastia and Ajaccio took about two hours.

Ferries come into Bastia, Île Rousse, Ajaccio and Porto-Vecchio, and Corsica Ferries and Air Corsica both gave entrants discounts in 2026. Corte is small enough to get everywhere on foot.

Crewing

The rules allow one assistant on the 110K and 69K, only at the aid stations the race pages name and only in the area set aside for it, from 500 m before to 500 m after the station. All they can hand you is a bag of up to 30 liters. Nobody may run with you outside the marked zones near aid stations, so there are no pacers.

The 110K's page names Calacuccia and Ciattarinu, both reached by road, and the 69K's names none. The road up the Restonica valley, the RD 623, has been closed to cars from Tuani since storms in November 2023. A shuttle runs up the valley every day from Corte station, and to reach E Grotelle the organizer says to get off at A Frassetta and walk about 6 km, with 500 m of climbing.

Weather and kit

July in Corte averages a high of 31.2°C and a low of 14.6°C, with about 36 mm of rain, by Météo-France's 1991 to 2020 normals. In 2026 storms were forecast for Saturday afternoon, and the 69K start was moved two and a half hours earlier to get runners through the stretch the forecast covered before the storm arrived.

The mandatory kit list is on the race site, and the organizer can add a cold weather or hot weather kit. If you start with poles you have to carry them to the finish: they're not allowed in drop bags.

Restonica Trail FAQ

When is the Restonica Trail 2027?

July 8 to 10, 2027. The Ultra-Trail di Corsica starts on Thursday July 8, the Giru di Tumbone on Friday July 9, and the Restonica Trail and Tavignanu Trail on Saturday July 10. The new Pianu Maiò is on Wednesday July 7.

Where can I get the Restonica Trail GPX?

The organizer releases it only a few days before the race, because the courses cross private land, and shows the route on each race page until then. This page draws the 2026 routes and their aid stations, which you can download in Goat Maps to have offline.

How many Running Stones does the Restonica Trail give?

4 for the Ultra-Trail di Corsica, 3 for the Restonica Trail, 2 for the Tavignanu Trail and 1 for the Giru di Tumbone. Each finish also gives you a UTMB Index in that race category.

Can you have a pacer on the Ultra-Trail di Corsica?

No. Running with anyone who isn't entered is against the rules outside the marked zones near aid stations. One crew member can meet you at Calacuccia and Ciattarinu.

What happens at the Restonica Trail if there are storms?

The organizer can change the routes, start times and cutoffs. In 2025 the 69K ran on a shorter alternative route, and in 2026 its start moved from 4:30 AM to 2 AM to beat an afternoon storm. Changes to cutoffs are sent by text message.
