Patagonia Run course maps and aid stations

Five days of trail races above San Martín de los Andes in April, from a 13 km race to 100 miles over Cerro Colorado and down to Lago Lácar.

April 7 to 11, 2027 San Martín de los Andes, Neuquén, Argentina

Patagonia Run has been held in San Martín de los Andes, in Argentina's Neuquén province, since 2010. Six races spread over five days in April, inside Lanín National Park and on the hills around town. Every course starts at the army regiment on the edge of town and finishes in Plaza San Martín, downtown.

The organizer's course pages give elevation charts, not GPX files. Each course's map and aid station table show the start, the finish and the stations we could place; the course descriptions list every station with its kilometer. Kilometers and cutoffs are from the 2026 charts, and the organizer says the 2027 courses are based on them and may change. Download the map before you go, and your phone's GPS will place you on it with or without signal.

The 100 starts on Friday afternoon (2 PM in 2026). The first 52 km head south, up toward Cerro Chapelco and back: Vallescondido (km 5.3), Galpón (13.1), the Filo Chapelco ridge at 1,959 m, Las Pendientes (22.4), Del Maderero (36), Vallescondido again (48.3) and Del Gimnasio (52.5), down at 727 m. From Rosales (61) you're on the 110k's stations: Portezuelo (67.9), the top of Cerro Colorado, Colorado (78.2) and Del Mallín (88.5).

Del Mallín to Quechuquina, on the lake, is 16.3 km, the longest gap. After Nonthué (111.1) and Del Lago (121.8) you climb to Coihue (130) and over Cerro Quilanlahue, then pass Colorado again (142.4) and Bayos (151). The last cutoff before the finish, at the Ruta 48 crossing (152.8), was 6:30 AM Sunday in 2026. These are the 2026 stations. The organizer says the 2027 course is based on the 2026 one and may change.

The organizer bills the 110k as a night race: it started at 9 PM Friday in 2026, so you run through the night and see the sun come up on the trail. You go from Rosales (km 7.9) to Portezuelo (14.8), over Cerro Colorado at about 1,765 m to Colorado (25.1), then Del Mallín (35.4). From there it's 16.3 km to Quechuquina (51.7) on Lago Lácar, the longest stretch without aid.

Between Quechuquina and Nonthué (58.1) you run about 1.3 km on Ruta Provincial 48. Stay between the shoulder and the cones: the road itself costs you 30 minutes, and a second time you're out. After Del Lago (68.8) you climb to Coihue (77) and over Cerro Quilanlahue, then come back through Colorado (89.4) and Bayos (98).

The 70k starts on Saturday at dawn (8:30 AM in 2026) and follows the 110k to Del Mallín (km 35.4), by way of Rosales (7.9), Portezuelo (14.8), the top of Cerro Colorado and Colorado (25.1). Del Mallín had an 8 PM cutoff. Then it skips the lake and climbs straight to Coihue (40.7), over Cerro Quilanlahue, and on to Colorado (53.1) and Bayos (61.7).

The organizer pitches it as the first ultra for runners stepping up from the marathon, with enough time to finish it.

The 21k opens the festival on Wednesday (9 AM in 2026) and is the organizer's most popular distance. It climbs to Rosales (km 6.9) and a high point of about 1,180 m soon after, then goes on to Bayos (11.9, cutoff 3 PM). From Bayos it's 9.3 km to the plaza.

The 12k is 13 km, and its page shows the 2026 10k chart: one aid station at Bayos (km 3.7, cutoff 3 PM in 2026), then 9.3 km to the plaza. In 2027 it runs on Thursday with the 42k. You can enter from age 14, and children of 12 or 13 can run it under the organizer's exception protocol, which includes a legal guardian or registered coach running with them the whole way.

Registration

Entry is online at patagoniarun.com while places last, and only full payment holds yours. In October 2026 registration was in its sixth price stage. Foreign runners paid US$198 for the 12k, $379 for the 21k, $535 for the 42k, $586 for the 70k, $627 for the 110k and $742 for the 100 mile. Residents of San Martín de los Andes and Junín de los Andes get 30% off.

For the 100 mile you apply first and need one of these: 12 ITRA points from at most three races between 2025 and 2027, one of them 110 km or more non-stop; a Patagonia Run 110k finish within the time limit or a 100 mile finish, in 2025 or 2026; or a finish in a similar non-stop race between 2025 and 2027.

You get a refund only within 10 days of signing up, and entries can't be transferred. If you've paid in full and pull out before February 28, 2027, the whole fee counts toward 2028; in March, 75%. At pickup, the day before your race, bring ID and a 2027 medical certificate that names your distance.

Getting to San Martín de los Andes

Chapelco airport (CPC) is 22 km from town, about 35 minutes. Bariloche is 190 km away, about three hours by Ruta 40 and the Seven Lakes road. By road it's about 1,600 km from Buenos Aires and 430 km from Neuquén. From Chile you cross at Mamuil Malal or Hua Hum.

The start, at the army's Regimiento de Caballería 4, is about 3.5 km from the center. In 2026 runners took a shuttle there from the corner of Belgrano and Perito Moreno. The finish is in Plaza San Martín.

Crews, drop bags and pacers

Outside help gets you disqualified in every race but the 100 mile. There you can register one helper when you pick up your bib, and they can meet you only where the organizer allows. On the 2026 chart those points were Del Gimnasio (km 52.5) and Nonthué (km 111.1). No one may run with you to help, so there are no pacers. Other runners and race staff can help you.

Drop bags go to the full-service aid stations: three for the 100 mile, two for the 110k and one each for the 70k and 42k. Each bag can weigh 3 kg, except the 100 mile bag for Colorado, which can weigh 5 kg.

Weather and kit

April is autumn here, when the lenga, ñire and roble pellín forests turn. In town, at 640 m, April averages a high of 15.1°C and a low of 6.1°C, with 65.9 mm of rain (INTA, 1993 to 2004). The courses climb past 1,700 m, and the 100 and the 110k run through a night, so expect it much colder up high. The organizer calls April weather in northern Patagonia unpredictable and cold.

The 2027 mandatory kit list hadn't been published when this page was checked.

Patagonia Run FAQ

When is Patagonia Run 2027?

April 7 to 11, 2027. The 21k is on Wednesday the 7th, the 42k and 12k on Thursday the 8th, the 100 mile and 110k on Friday the 9th and the 70k on Saturday the 10th. Start times hadn't been announced when this page was checked.

Is Patagonia Run a Western States qualifier?

Yes. Western States lists the 2027 100 mile within 42 hours and the 110k within 27 hours as qualifiers for its 2028 lottery. The 2026 races counted the same way for 2027.

Can anyone run the Patagonia Run 100 miles?

No. You apply, and the organizer accepts you if you have 12 ITRA points from up to three races (one of at least 110 km non-stop), a finish in its 110k or 100 mile in 2025 or 2026, or a finish in a similar non-stop race.

Can you have a crew or a pacer at Patagonia Run?

Only 100 mile runners get outside help: one registered helper, at the points the organizer sets. Nobody can run with you to help in any race, so there are no pacers.

Where does Patagonia Run start and finish?

Every race starts at the Regimiento de Caballería 4, about 3.5 km from the center of San Martín de los Andes, and finishes in Plaza San Martín.

How much climbing is the Patagonia Run 100 miles?

9,221 m over 160.3 km, with a 42 hour limit. The high point on the 2026 chart is the Filo Chapelco ridge at 1,959 m, early in the race.
