Nice Côte d'Azur by UTMB course maps and aid stations

Five one-way races that all end on the Promenade des Anglais, from a 23 km coastal run to a 100 miler that starts at the ski resort of Auron.

2027 dates not announced yet, usually in September Nice, Alpes-Maritimes, France

Nice Côte d'Azur by UTMB is a UTMB World Series event at the end of September, first run in 2022. Every course runs one way to Nice and finishes on the Promenade des Anglais. The 100M starts at the ski resort of Auron, at about 1,600 m, and the 100K in the mountain village of Roubion. The two 50Ks start at Col d'Èze and in Levens, and the 20K at the port of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. The longer courses join up in the hills behind Nice for the last stretch over Mont Leuze, Mont Vinaigrier, Mont Alban and Mont Boron.

The 2027 dates aren't out yet. The map shows the 2026 courses, which ran from 24 to 27 September.

The runners' guide warns that parts of the course are remote, with limited road access and phone coverage. Download the course map before you go. GPS shows where you are on it without a signal.

The 100M leaves Auron on Friday afternoon and climbs to its high point, over 2,650 m, at Rabuons. From there it heads for Colle Longue, skirting the Italian Piedmont, then drops on a remote, technical descent. Next come chestnut woods, the Tinée river and a long ridge above 2,000 m, before the course turns south into warmer, more Mediterranean country. The four hills of Leuze, Vinaigrier, Alban and Boron come last, then the coast into Nice.

Your drop bag goes from Auron to Saint-Sauveur-sur-Tinée, then on to Levens and the finish, and both of those aid stations serve hot food. The longest gap is Granges de la Brasque to Utelle, about 17 km. Brec d'Utelle, on the way, has first aid but no food or water. The start goes in two waves 15 minutes apart, and the cutoffs count from the second.

The 100K starts on Saturday morning in Roubion, a village built on a cliff in the south of the Mercantour National Park. After a few kilometers on the Vignols track, the course follows the ridges between the Tinée and Vésubie valleys, with views of the Alps and the Mercantour's main peaks. From Brec d'Utelle on, it follows the same route as the 100M to the finish, over the four hills above Nice.

La Tour to Utelle is 15.7 km, with the climb over Brec d'Utelle in between. Your one drop bag is at Levens. Runners set off in four waves, 15 minutes apart.

The 50K starts at Col d'Èze, at about 500 m, in the Grande Corniche departmental park. It tops out at just over 1,000 m, around the radio mast aid station. The course drops to the hill villages of Peille and Peillon, then follows an old irrigation canal and joins the 100K and 100M for the Mont Leuze trails.

Plateau Saint-Michel, the last aid station, looks over the harbor of Villefranche-sur-Mer and Cap Ferrat. From there you run past Port Lympia, Nice's old port, to the Promenade. Crews can only help at Laghet-La Trinité, and runners set off in five waves.

The 20K starts at the port of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on Sunday morning and runs nearly all the way around the peninsula. It climbs to the Chapelle Saint-Grat and on to Plateau Saint-Michel, the one aid station, with a view over Cap Ferrat. Then it crosses the Col des Quatre Chemins and drops back to the coast. The last few kilometers run past the port of Nice and along the shore below Castle Hill to the finish on the Promenade.

About half the course is along the sea, and it mixes roads with trails.

Registration

For 2026, entry opened on 9 December 2025 for runners with a UTMB Index, and two days later for everyone else. Places went first come, first served, with no draw and no waitlist, and registrations didn't reopen. You can't transfer a bib or carry it over to the next year. All five races show as full on the race site.

You also need a PPS code: you take an online health prevention course and paste the code into your MyUTMB registration. And you need accident insurance that covers search and rescue in France, which the entry fee doesn't include.

Getting to the starts

Nice Côte d'Azur Airport is about 15 minutes from the city center, with a tram into town. By TGV, Paris is about 6 hours away and Marseille 2 hours 40.

In 2026 the race ran buses from Nice to four of the starts, booked in your MyUTMB account. The 100M bus left the Port of Nice in the morning and took a little over two hours to reach Auron. The 100K and 50K Eze buses left from the Promenade des Anglais early in the morning. The road from Saint-Sauveur-sur-Tinée to Roubion was closed, so another 100K shuttle ran from Saint-Sauveur. You couldn't drive to the Eze start. The Levens buses left the Port of Nice in the late afternoon. For the 20K, runners took a train from Nice-Ville to Beaulieu-sur-Mer and walked about 3 km to the start, which has no parking.

Each runner may have one assistant, only at the aid stations marked for assistance and within 500 m either side of them. Your crew can hand over a bag of up to 30 liters. Nobody may run alongside you outside the marked spectator zones near the aid stations, so there are no pacers.

On the 100M, crews can meet you at Isola, Saint-Sauveur-sur-Tinée, Venanson, Utelle, Levens, Tourrette-Levens and Drap. On the 100K it's La Tour, Utelle, Levens, Tourrette-Levens and Drap, and on the 50K Eze only Laghet-La Trinité. The Levens 50K and the 20K have no crew points. In 2026 there was no shuttle following the races: supporters could ride the start buses and come back on the return bus, which left Auron at 2 PM.

Weather and kit

Late September in Nice is still warm. At the airport the September normals are a 24.8 °C high and a 17.7 °C low, with 81 mm of rain over about five wet days, and the sea is around 22 °C. Up in the mountains the guide warns that the weather can turn fast, from snow, hail and fog to heat over 30 °C or cold below -10 °C.

Your phone is mandatory, with roaming on and never in airplane mode. Carry your own cup of at least 15 cl, since aid stations hand out no disposable cups, and your own cutlery if you want hot food. If you use poles, you start with them and carry them to the finish.

Nice by UTMB FAQ

When is Nice Côte d'Azur by UTMB 2027?

The 2027 dates have not been announced. The event is held at the end of September; in 2026 it ran from 24 to 27 September, with the 100M starting on Friday the 25th.

Where does the Nice 100M start?

In Auron, a ski resort at 1,592 m in the commune of Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée, at 1 PM on the Friday. Shuttles run from the Port of Nice that morning, and you book them in MyUTMB.

Can you have a pacer at Nice Côte d'Azur by UTMB?

No. The rules forbid running with anyone who is not in the race, except in the marked spectator zones near the aid stations.

Is Nice Côte d'Azur by UTMB a qualifier for the UTMB Finals?

Finishing earns Running Stones: 4 for the 100M, 3 for the 100K, 2 for either 50K and 1 for the 20K. The top three men and women in the 100M also get direct entry to UTMB, in the 100K to CCC, and in the 50K Eze to OCC.

Where are the drop bags on the Nice 100M and 100K?

On the 100M your bag goes from Auron to Saint-Sauveur-sur-Tinée, then to Levens and the finish. On the 100K it waits at Levens and then the finish. The 50Ks and the 20K have one bag, carried from the start to the finish. No poles are allowed in the bags.

Is there phone signal on the Nice course?

The runners' guide says parts of the course are remote, with limited phone coverage. Your phone is mandatory kit, and the LiveTrail app lets you send your GPS position to the race if you need help.
