Mohican Trail 100 course maps and aid stations

A 100 miler, a 50 and a marathon on the same loops through the Mohican Memorial State Forest, all starting and finishing at Mohican Adventures.

June 5 to 6, 2027 Loudonville, Ohio

The Mohican Trail 100, the MO 100 to its regulars, is run out of Loudonville, Ohio, and the organizer reports it's the fifth oldest ultra in the US. Its results on UltraSignup go back to 1990. The 2027 race is June 5 and 6, with packet pickup on Friday, June 4. More than 700 runners came in 2026.

Every distance starts and finishes at the Mohican Adventures pavilion on SR 3 and runs loops through the 5,000-acre Mohican Memorial State Forest and Mohican State Park. The marathon is one long loop, the 50 mile adds a shorter second loop, and the 100 runs the long loop twice and the short one twice. The map shows the organizer's loop files and the data chart posted with the 2026 race; the 2027 chart isn't out yet.

The race FAQ says night fog is not unusual and that it's possible to wander off even a well marked course. With the map downloaded, your phone's GPS shows where you are on the loop without a signal.

The 100 starts at 5 AM (2026's time) and runs the long loop twice, then the short loop twice, coming back through Mohican Adventures after each. The data chart has it at 100.15 miles, with 14,118 feet of climbing measured on a Garmin altimeter.

The long loop runs from the Fire Tower past Big Lyons Falls and Pleasant Hill Dam to the Covered Bridge, about 6 miles. The short loop cuts that stretch to 2.6 miles. The 10.5 miles from the Covered Bridge through Hickory Ridge to Mohican Adventures is the stretch crews can't reach, since neither station allows them. In 2026 the final cutoff was 1 PM Sunday, and on the last loop the aid stations closed one by one, from Mohican Adventures at 5:36 AM to Hickory Ridge at 11:25 AM.

The 50 starts an hour after the 100, at 6 AM in 2026, and runs one long loop and then a short one: 50 miles and 7,059 feet of climbing on the chart. There's no cutoff of its own. The aid stations stay open for the 100, so you have 31 hours and can hike it.

Pacers aren't allowed in the 50. Drop bags go to the Covered Bridge and Mohican Adventures.

The marathon starts at 8 AM (2026's time) and runs the long loop once: 26.81 miles and 3,858 feet of climbing on the data chart. It takes in the Gorge Overlook, the Fire Tower, Big Lyons Falls, Pleasant Hill Dam and the Covered Bridge before Hickory Ridge and the finish.

Like the 50, it has no cutoff of its own beyond the 100's, which leaves 29 hours, and pacers aren't allowed.

Registration and fees

2027 registration hasn't opened. The organizer says details are coming soon. In 2026 it was open entry on RunReg with prices that rose on set dates: the 100 went from $240 before November 1 to $310 after May 10, the 50 from $140 to $210 and the marathon from $85 to $125. Online entry closed the Thursday before the race. The 100 and 50 could still sign up at Friday packet pickup, and the marathon on Saturday morning.

Half the fee was refundable until May 10, with no deferrals unless the race is cancelled. You can drop to a shorter distance at packet pickup, but you don't get the difference back. Once the race starts you can't switch. A 100 runner who stops after 50 miles still gets a 50+ medal.

Getting there and parking

Loudonville sits between Columbus and Cleveland. From Columbus it's just over 70 miles, and from Cleveland about 80 by I-71; both take around an hour and a half.

Packet pickup, the starts and the finish are at the Mohican Adventures pavilion, opposite the campground entrance on SR 3. Race parking is signed on the river side of the road, with more at the upper lot and on Old Wally Road in Loudonville.

Crewing and pacing

Crews can meet runners at Mohican Adventures, the Gorge Overlook and the Fire Tower, and on the long loop at MTB Parking #2 and Pleasant Hill Dam, which has restrooms and water. There's no parking at the Fire Tower: leave the car at the mountain bike trailhead or the closed juvenile facility lot and walk. Crews can't go to the Covered Bridge or Hickory Ridge, and the race can disqualify a runner whose crew shows up at the Covered Bridge.

Pacers are for the 100 only, one at a time, on foot. They start at Mohican Adventures at mile 53.6, or at the first pass for runners 60 and over, and can also join at the Gorge Overlook or the Fire Tower. Pacers register free and check in at Mohican Adventures first.

Weather and kit

At Mansfield's airport, June averages a high of 79°F (26°C) and a low of 59°F (15°C), with 4.8 inches of rain over the month. The organizer warns that some years bring a lot of rain and that Saturday night is often chilly. Waterproof what's in your drop bags. Leave warm clothes at the finish too, since runners who stop moving at the end can start shivering hard.

Mohican FAQ

When is the Mohican 100 in 2027?

June 5 and 6, 2027, with packet pickup on Friday, June 4. The organizer has not posted the 2027 schedule; in 2026 the 100 started at 5 AM Saturday.

Is Mohican a Western States qualifier?

Yes. Finishing the 100 mile within its 32 hour limit qualifies you. The 2027 race counts toward the 2028 Western States lottery.

Does Mohican count for UTMB?

It's a UTMB Index race. The organizer says it qualifies you for UTMB World Series events. It no longer gives direct entry to the UTMB lottery.

What is the cutoff for the Mohican 100?

32 hours, which put the finish cutoff at 1 PM Sunday in 2026. The 50 mile and marathon have no cutoff of their own and finish within the same window, so they get 31 and 29 hours.

Where are the drop bags at Mohican?

At the Covered Bridge and Mohican Adventures, for 50 and 100 mile runners. Mark them with the aid station letter (C or E) and your bib number, and have them in place by 10 PM Friday.

How is the Mohican course marked?

Reflective Mohican Trail markers sit on some of the trail posts, with a colored arrow for each loop, plus arrow signs, flags and lime arrows on the ground. The organizer still says to watch the markings at night, when fog can roll in.
