Miwok 100K aid station map

62 miles of Marin trail from Stinson Beach, out to the Golden Gate and back up the coast to the redwoods of Bolinas Ridge.

May 1, 2027 Stinson Beach, California

Miwok has been run in Marin County since 1996, and since 2012 it has started and finished in Stinson Beach. The 2027 race, the 31st, is on Saturday, May 1. It covers 62.2 miles with 11,501 feet of climbing, almost all on single-track and dirt roads in the Marin Headlands and on Mount Tamalpais.

The course heads south first to Bridge View, above the Golden Gate, then comes back past Muir Beach to Cardiac on the flank of Mount Tam. From there it runs north along Bolinas Ridge to Randall Trailhead and turns for home. The map shows the aid stations as the race site lists them in October 2026; check the site for changes before race day.

The race warns that cell service is limited on parts of the course and in the area around it. Download the map before you drive out, especially if you're crewing.

You start at 5 a.m. with a headlamp and climb the Dipsea Trail over the moors and Insult Hill to Cardiac. There's no aid there on the way out, only portapotties, so Muir Beach at mile 8 is your first station. From Tennessee Valley the course loops south on Marincello, Bobcat, Alta and the rugged SCA Trail, with the Golden Gate Bridge below, to Bridge View, then back through Rodeo Valley and the Miwok Stables to Tennessee Valley at mile 26. The fire road junctions around Tennessee Valley are confusing, and the race tells you to study its course map before you go.

The second half climbs from Muir Beach to Cardiac, crosses at Pan Toll and follows Matt Davis Trail and Bolinas Ridge Trail through the redwoods to Randall Trailhead at mile 49.2. You climb back up Randall and along the ridge to Bolinas Ridge at mile 55.9, then drop down the technical Matt Davis Trail, all roots and rocks, to Stinson Beach. The longest gaps are Bridge View to Tennessee Valley (7.4 miles) and Cardiac to Bolinas Ridge (7.0).

Getting an entry

Registration for 2027 opens on RunSignUp on November 7, 2026 at 6 a.m. PST. There are 400 places, and they sell out quickly. Once it's full you go on the waitlist, and your card isn't charged until you're offered a place and accept it. Entry is $310, and if you drop before February 1 you get $124 back (40%).

There are two other ways in. A $460 entry includes a 16-week training plan from race director Magda Boulet, starting January 11, 2027; the money goes to the race's community partners and isn't refunded. Or run it as a relay, $450 for a team of four, limited to 20 teams: legs of 26, 9.5, 14 and 13 miles on the same course, with the same start. If you volunteer at least 8 hours, you get priority registration for the following year.

Getting to Stinson Beach

Stinson Beach is less than an hour from San Francisco, but the road in is narrow and winding. The race asks you to be there by 4 a.m. Every runner parks in the Stinson Beach Park dirt lot (navigate to 15 Marine Way); cars left along the roads or side streets are towed. From the lot it's about 0.4 miles on foot to the start.

Check in at the Community Center between 4:00 and 4:45 a.m., even if you picked up your bib earlier. The 2027 bib pickup details aren't posted yet. Sleeping in your car on the streets of Stinson Beach is illegal, so book a bed.

Crews and pacers

Crews can meet you at three places only: Tennessee Valley (miles 13 and 26) from 6:30 a.m., Muir Beach on the way back (mile 30.3) after 7 a.m., and Randall Trailhead (mile 49.2) all day. Help anywhere else gets you disqualified. Drop bags go to Tennessee Valley, Randall and the finish.

Pacers join at Randall only. They check in with the aid station captain, sign a waiver, stay with you the whole way and can't carry your gear. For friends who just want to watch, the race suggests Tennessee Valley, which has parking. Chip timing on Ultralive.net shows where you are on the day.

Weather and kit

The race says to expect anything in early May: hot sun, cool fog, drizzle, heavy rain and mud, sometimes all in one day. Bring sunscreen, a light jacket and a hat. In Kentfield, the nearest NOAA station with temperature normals and on the inland side of Mount Tam, May averages a high of 73.5°F and a low of 49.5°F.

You'll need a headlamp for about the first 75 minutes, since dawn comes around 6. Leave it in the light box at Muir Beach and collect it at the finish. Miwok has no cups: carry your own for the aid stations. Poles are allowed but you carry them start to finish. Watch for poison oak; there's a Tecnu wash at the finish.

Miwok FAQ

When is the Miwok 100K 2027?

Saturday, May 1, 2027, starting at 5 a.m. from the Stinson Beach Community Center. Registration opens November 7, 2026 at 6 a.m. PST on RunSignUp.

How do you get into Miwok?

Register on RunSignUp when entry opens. The 400 places sell out quickly, and once they're gone you can join the waitlist. Volunteering 8 hours one year gets you priority registration the next.

Is Miwok a Western States qualifier?

Yes. The 2027 race qualifies you for the 2028 Western States lottery if you finish within the 15:30 limit. The race also says it's a UTMB Index race.

How tight are the Miwok cutoffs?

You have 15 hours 30 minutes, to 8:30 p.m. The cutoffs at Randall (5:10 p.m.) and Bolinas Ridge on the way back (6:50 p.m.) are set by the California State Parks permit and strictly enforced, and there are no early starts.

Can you have a pacer at Miwok?

Yes, from Randall Trailhead at mile 49.2 to the finish. Your pacer signs a waiver at Randall, has to stay with you and may not carry your gear.

Is there cell service on the Miwok course?

Not everywhere. The race warns that service is limited in parts of the course and asks crews to load driving directions before race day. Download this map too.
