Little Sugar MTB course map and aid stations

Three point-to-point mountain bike races on the Ozark singletrack between Bella Vista and downtown Bentonville, from the 12.8 mile 20K to the 64 mile 100K.

2027 dates not announced yet, usually in October Bella Vista and Bentonville, Arkansas

Little Sugar is the mountain bike race that opens Life Time's Big Sugar Classic week in Northwest Arkansas. It's also a Life Time Grand Prix round: in 2026 it was the series' fifth stop and second to last, six days before Big Sugar Gravel, and it's on the 2027 Grand Prix calendar too.

All three courses run point to point, from OZ Trails Bike Park in Bella Vista to The Momentary in downtown Bentonville. The 100K and 50K go north first, into the hollers and ravines of the Little Sugar and Back 40 trails, and pick up Slaughter Pen on the way back to town. 2026 was the first year the race started at OZ Trails Bike Park. The first edition, in 2023, started at the Coler MTB Preserve.

The map shows the organizer's course lines from the 2026 race on October 11, with pins for the start, the two aid stations, the 100K's two water oases and the finish.

The organizer warns that tracking texts can lag in the back country, depending on cell signal, and its rules call a GPS device highly recommended for following the tape. Download the map before race day: your phone's GPS shows where you are on it without a signal.

The 2026 course was 64 miles with about 5,800 feet of climbing, by the organizer's figures. Expect grinding climbs between fast rolling descents all day, on trails past bluff lines, caves, waterfalls and the Ledges. New that year was Handcut Hollow, a stretch of hand-built trail before the finish at The Momentary. The course is marked in black and pink. The elite men started at 8:00 and the elite women at 8:10, and the age group wave was scheduled for 8:20.

Full aid comes twice, at TH Rogers Lumber Yard (mile 26) and Veteran's Park (mile 47). Before each one there's a water oasis, at miles 13.1 and 34.3, so plan your food for 26 miles to the first full stop. Crews can meet you at TH Rogers. At Veteran's Park, only elite riders could meet theirs in 2026.

You reach TH Rogers Lumber Yard at mile 10, the one place your crew can meet you. The second aid station, Veteran's Park at mile 20, is closed to crews, and from there it's 12.5 miles to The Momentary.

The organizer pitches the 20K at riders of all ages, with junior categories from 12 to 19. It has about 1,136 feet of climbing and no aid stations, so carry everything you'll need for 12.8 miles. In 2026 it started last, at 9:30, and it's marked in green.

Registration and the Leadville coins

Registration for 2026 opened on March 2 at 2 PM Central. Life Time members got early access a week before that, and riders deferring from 2025 a week before them. Entry cost $80 for the 20K, $120 for the 50K and $180 for the 100K. If a distance fills, the organizer may open a waitlist, and 10 hours of volunteering at the event earns you an entry for the following year.

The 100K is a Leadville Trail 100 MTB qualifier. Ride it and Big Sugar's 100 mile in the same week and you're in the Sweet Tooth Challenge, with a pennant for finishing both; the 50K and the 50 mile make the Semi-Sweet version. You register for each race separately.

The 2027 date hadn't been announced when this page was checked.

Fly into Northwest Arkansas National (XNA), southwest of Bentonville. OZ Trails Bike Park sits on Highway 71 where Bentonville meets Bella Vista. It opened in June 2026, the first chairlift-served bike park in Arkansas, and race parking is there too.

The finish is outside The Momentary in downtown Bentonville, with a parking garage just south of it. To get back to your car, ride the Razorback Greenway up to the bike park.

The park is private land. You can pre-ride its trails only during its business hours, through the public entrances, with a park pass, lift ticket or event credential and its waivers signed.

Packet pickup and support crews

You collect your packet yourself, with a government photo ID, at the rider meeting on the Saturday before the race. In 2026 pickup ran from 11 AM to 5 PM at OZ Trails Bike Park, with meetings at 2 and 5.

Support crews can meet riders at the TH Rogers Lumber Yard aid station on Pinion Drive in Bella Vista, and elite riders' crews at Veteran's Park as well. If a crew vehicle shows up anywhere else on the course, its rider is disqualified. There are no drop bags. Every aid station has neutral mechanical support, water and food, and pickup vehicles bring in riders who abandon; the number to call is on the race page.

Your bike, your kit and the weather

Drop bars are no longer allowed: you need flat or riser bars, and aerobars and clip-on extensions are banned. The bike needs two hand brakes, and you finish on the frame you started on.

You must carry a cycling computer or GPS unit, at least 2 liters of water or sports drink, two spare tubes, a pump or inflator, and a phone. The organizer also suggests a waterproof jacket and a warm layer. The course crosses many roads that stay open to traffic, and shares short stretches with the Razorback Greenway, which stays open to the public. Checkpoint cutoffs are set from an average of 6 mph, and the finish line closed at 6 PM in 2026.

Bentonville's October normals are a high of about 71°F and a low of about 46°F, with around 3.4 inches of rain over the month (NOAA, 1991 to 2020).

Little Sugar FAQ

When is Little Sugar MTB 2027?

The 2027 date hadn't been announced when this page was checked. The 2026 race was on Sunday, October 11, with packet pickup the day before, and Big Sugar Gravel followed on Saturday, October 17. Little Sugar is on the 2027 Life Time Grand Prix calendar, again as the round before Big Sugar.

Is Little Sugar a Leadville qualifier?

Yes, the 100K. At least 35 Leadville Trail 100 MTB coins go to 100K finishers, first by overall and age group results and then by a lottery at the awards. You have to be there to claim one, be at least 18, and pay the Leadville entry fee.

Can you ride a gravel bike at Little Sugar?

Not with drop bars. The rules require flat or riser bars and say drop bars are no longer allowed, for safety and because of the trails. Officials check at the pre-race inspection and on course, and aerobars and bar extensions are out too.

Where can crews meet riders at Little Sugar?

Only at the TH Rogers Lumber Yard aid station in Bella Vista, mile 26 of the 100K and mile 10 of the 50K. Elite riders can also meet crews at Veteran's Park, mile 47 of the 100K. A crew vehicle seen anywhere else on the course gets its rider disqualified.

Is there cell service on the Little Sugar course?

The organizer doesn't promise it: it warns that tracking texts can lag in the back country, depending on cell signal. Download the map in Goat Maps before you go: your phone's GPS still shows where you are without a signal.

How much climbing is the Little Sugar 100K?

About 5,800 feet over 64 miles, by the organizer's figures. The 50K has about 2,800 feet over 32.5 miles, and the 20K about 1,136 feet over 12.8 miles.
