KAT100 by UTMB course maps and aid stations

Five races on the grassy ridges of the Kitzbühel Alps, from an 8 km loop past Lauchsee to a 100 miler that runs through the PillerseeTal, over the Kitzbüheler Horn to Kitzbühel and back by Jochberg.

August 5 to 7, 2027 Fieberbrunn, Tyrol, Austria

KAT100 is a UTMB World Series event in Tyrol, Austria, based in the center of Fieberbrunn in the PillerseeTal. The 2027 edition runs from 5 to 7 August. Every race finishes in Fieberbrunn, and all but one start there too: the Endurance Trail starts at midnight in Kitzbühel and runs back over the mountains.

The 100 Miles, which the organizer bills as Austria's longest ultra trail, starts on Thursday evening. It climbs past the Wildseeloder, drops to Hochfilzen, St. Ulrich am Pillersee and Waidring, crosses to St. Johann in Tirol and the Kitzbüheler Horn, then comes back through Kitzbühel, Jochberg and Oberaurach to Fieberbrunn.

The trails are marked, but the race guide warns that rain, snow or darkness can hide the markings and that people sometimes take them down. You have to carry a map of the course, and on the 100 Miles, Endurance Trail and Marathon Trail a GPS device with the track loaded is mandatory. Download the course map before you go. GPS shows where you are without a signal.

The stops and cutoffs here are from the 2027 race pages. The 2027 Runner Guide isn't out yet.

This is an unofficial guide: Goat Maps isn't affiliated with KAT100 by UTMB. Check the official site before you enter or race.

The organizer calls the 2027 Marathon Trail a completely new route: the two loops of earlier years become one. It heads southwest past the Gebrakapelle to Hochwildalm, crosses to the Hochalm top station at 21.7 km, drops to Pulvermacher, and comes back over Reckmoos and Wildalm to the finish.

The longest gap is the 11.9 km from the Hochalm down to Pulvermacher, and the climb after it is the last big one. There's no crew help at the aid stations. The race page shows the route but holds back the GPX download for now, since the course may still change a little.

There's food at Wildalm and Lärchfilzhochalm and drinks at Reckmoos, and no crew help on the course. The organizer's GPX for this course is still the 2026 file.

The Easy Trail starts in Fieberbrunn at 5 PM on Saturday, with a drinks stop at Lauchsee after 2 km and a stretch along a mountain stream. It climbs 250 m in all and has a two hour limit. The organizer's GPX for it dates from 2023.

Getting a place

Entry is first come, first served. Runners with a valid UTMB Index had a 48 hour window from 22 September 2026, then general registration opened to everyone. It stays open until 21 July 2027 or until a race sells out, and there's no waiting list.

The two long races ask for experience. The 100 Miles needs a valid UTMB Index in the 100K or 100M category, and the Endurance Trail one in the 50K, 100K or 100M category. You must be born in 2009 or before for the four longer races.

At the current tier the 100 Miles costs 403.20 EUR, the Endurance Trail 245.95, the Marathon Trail 196.22, the Speed Trail 145.15 and the Easy Trail 77.95. Bibs can't be transferred to someone else or deferred to 2028, but you can move down to a shorter distance until 15 July 2027. For the three longer races you get 60% back if you withdraw by 5 April 2027 and 30% by 5 June 2027. The Speed Trail and Easy Trail aren't refundable.

Getting to Fieberbrunn

Salzburg Airport is the closest, 63 km away and about 1 hour 15 minutes from Fieberbrunn. Innsbruck Airport is about 1.5 hours away and Munich Airport about 2. By car from Munich, take the A12 to Kufstein Süd, then the B173 and B178 into the PillerseeTal.

Fieberbrunn station is about 2 km from the event area, and the Rosenegg bus stop is a 5 minute walk from the station. If you stay anywhere in the PillerseeTal, your accommodation gives you a guest card that makes local buses and trains free. In 2026 there were three official car parks in Fieberbrunn. Wild camping is forbidden in the valley, so book a campground.

For the Endurance Trail, a runners' shuttle leaves Fieberbrunn (Aubad) for Kitzbühel late on Friday evening and is included in the entry fee; in 2026 it left at 10:30 PM. Supporters can't ride it. The train from Fieberbrunn to Kitzbühel takes about 15 minutes and runs about every half hour until about 1 AM.

Crews, drop bags and pacers

Crews can help only at the life points, where you also get your drop bag. The 2027 race pages mark Waidring, Kitzbühel and Jochberg on the 100 Miles, and Jochberg on the Endurance Trail. In the 2026 guide the life points were Waidring, Kitzbühel and Oberaurach, each with field beds to sleep on, so check the 2027 guide when it comes out.

One person may help you, carrying a single bag of up to 30 liters. Help from professional teams or medical staff isn't allowed. The Marathon, Speed and Easy Trails have no crew help at aid stations.

There are no pacers. The regulations forbid running with anyone who isn't registered, outside the marked spectator zones near the aid stations. Drop bags are handed out at bib pickup; you return them filled, and the organizer carries them to the life points.

Weather and kit

Kitzbühel, in the valley, averages a high of 23.3 °C and a low of 11.0 °C in August (1971 to 2000), with 150.7 mm of rain over about 14 days. August is one of the wettest months there. The courses top out at 2,119 m on the Wildseeloder, and the regulations warn you to be ready for night, wind, cold, fog, rain or snow at altitude.

The mandatory kit varies by race and is checked when you pick up your bib. The list includes a hooded waterproof jacket with sealed seams and a 15 cl cup, since the aid stations hand out no cups. The organizer decides before the start whether the cold weather kit or the hot weather kit is mandatory. In an emergency, use the Notfall Tirol app or call mountain rescue on 140.

KAT100 FAQ

When is KAT100 2027?

5 to 7 August 2027. The 100 Miles starts in Fieberbrunn on Thursday 5 August at 6 PM, and the Endurance Trail in Kitzbühel at 11:59 PM on Friday. On Saturday the Marathon Trail starts at 7 AM, the Speed Trail at 9 AM and the Easy Trail at 5 PM. The Kids Trail is on Friday at 5 PM.

Do you need a UTMB Index to run KAT100?

For the two longest races, yes. The 100 Miles needs a valid UTMB Index in the 100K or 100M category, and the Endurance Trail in the 50K, 100K or 100M category. The Marathon, Speed and Easy Trails don't need one.

Does KAT100 count toward UTMB?

Finishers earn Running Stones: 4 for the 100 Miles, 3 for the Endurance Trail, 2 for the Marathon Trail and 1 for the Speed Trail. One Running Stone from the past two years and a valid UTMB Index get you into the lottery for the UTMB World Series Finals in Chamonix, and each extra stone adds a chance.

Can you have a pacer at KAT100?

No. Runners may not be accompanied by anyone who isn't registered, except in the marked spectator zones by the aid stations. Your crew can meet you only at the life points.

Do you need a GPS watch for KAT100?

On the 100 Miles, Endurance Trail and Marathon Trail, yes: a GPS device with the official track loaded is part of the mandatory kit. The race pages link the GPX for every course except the Marathon Trail, whose download is hidden. Every runner must also carry a map of the course, since markings can be washed out by rain or removed.

How do you get to the Endurance Trail start?

By the runners' shuttle from Fieberbrunn (Aubad) to the football stadium in Kitzbühel, included in your entry; in 2026 it left at 10:30 PM. Your bib is your ticket. Friends and family take the train, which is free with the PillerseeTal guest card.
