Kaçkar by UTMB course maps and aid stations

Four races out of Ayder in Türkiye's Kaçkar Mountains, from a 4 km loop around the village to a 100K over passes as high as 3,200 m.

September 10 to 12, 2027 Ayder, Rize, Türkiye

Kaçkar by UTMB is the only UTMB World Series event in Türkiye. It runs from Ayder, a plateau village at about 1,350 m in the Kaçkar Mountains of Rize province. The first edition was in 2025, when 1,878 runners from 59 countries came, and heavy snow forced the organizer to cancel the 100K.

All four races start and finish in Ayder on Saturday 11 September 2027. The 100K climbs through forest to the stone houses of Samistal, crosses Mezovit Pass at about 3,200 m with views of Kaçkar's north face, and comes back over Huser above the clouds. The 50K shares its first half, then comes back by Palakçur and Galer. The 20K climbs from Ayder to Huser and back by Peryatak, and the 4K stays in the forest close to the village.

The map shows the 2026 courses and aid stations, the latest the organizer has published. The 100K, 50K and 20K make you carry a smartphone with the LiveRun app anyway, so download the map before you go: the phone's GPS puts you on the course line whether or not it has a signal.

This is an unofficial guide: Goat Maps isn't affiliated with Kaçkar by UTMB. Check the official site before you enter or race.

The organizer calls it a 100K that feels like a 100 miler and tells anyone unsure to start with the 50K. It bills the course at 82 km and 5,600 m of climbing; the 2026 course data on the map gives 82.7 km and 5,489 m.

From Ayder you climb about 1,000 m through primary forest and river crossings to Hazindak, then on to Samistal and Yukarı Kavrun, the first crew point. Next is the rocky scramble to Mezovit Pass, the high point at about 3,200 m, and past two alpine lakes you come down to Yukarı Ceymakçur. After Palakçur comes a long traverse at 2,700 m to Avusor Lake and the Life Base at Avusor, where your drop bag and crew wait at 48.8 km. Dadala Pass, close to 2,900 m, leads down to Koçdüzü, and the last climb runs over the Huser ridge before a 1,100 m drop to the finish. You go longest without food from Koçdüzü to Huser, 15.2 km with only drinks at Aşağı Kaçkar, and from Hazindak to Yukarı Kavrun, 14.2 km with drinks at Samistal. The 13 km either side of Yukarı Ceymakçur have no stop at all. The cutoffs shown are 2026's.

The 50K follows the 100K to Hazindak, Samistal and Yukarı Kavrun, then skips Mezovit Pass and runs past high alpine lakes at nearly 2,900 m, close to its high point, on the way to Yukarı Ceymakçur. From there it climbs to the village of Palakçur and drops to Galer, the second crew point. On the way down to Ayder the cobbles give way to tarmac.

The 2026 course was 44.8 km with 3,007 m of climbing. That year the 50K went off in two waves, at 8:00 and 8:30, and the finish closed at 9 PM; the map's cutoffs are 2026's.

Most of the climbing comes at once. The 2026 course data has 1,079 m of its 1,280 m in the first 6.5 km, the forest climb from Ayder to Huser; the organizer bills the whole course at 20 km and 1,400 m. From the Huser ridge the course drops past waterfalls and narrow bridges to Peryatak, then down to Ayder. In 2026 it started in two waves, at 10:00 and 10:30, with the finish closing at 4:30 PM; the map's cutoffs are that year's.

The organizer calls it a good course for runners new to trail.

A short loop on forest single track and stone paths, through the green in the middle of Ayder, with no high mountain. The organizer gives it about 230 m of climbing, and the 2026 course data on the map 285 m. It needs no medical certificate, and the mandatory kit is a bib, a phone and an ID.

Registration

Registration for 2027 opens on 19 October 2026 at 12:00 for runners with a valid UTMB Index, who get 48 hours to themselves. After that anyone can enter until the races sell out, and there's no waiting list. You need a MyUTMB account.

Fees go up as places fill: €155 to €190 for the 100K, €115 to €145 for the 50K, €65 to €105 for the 20K and €25 to €35 for the 4K, with an 8% service fee on top. Without the optional €20 Flexibility Fee there are no refunds. With it you get the whole entry fee back before 10 June 2027 and 70% until 10 August, but not the Flexibility Fee or the service fee.

Turkish law requires a medical certificate for the 100K, 50K and 20K. Upload it to MyUTMB before 1 September 2027. It must say "Athletics sport" and be less than a year old on race day. Runners in those three races must be 18 by 11 September 2027.

Getting to Ayder

Rize-Artvin Airport (RZV) is 50 km from Ayder, with flights from Istanbul in about 1 hour 45 minutes and from Ankara in about 1 hour 15. Trabzon (TZX) has international flights from cities such as London and Dubai but is 155 km away. By public transport, the Ayder minibus leaves Pazar and Ardeşen every hour until 5 PM and takes about an hour.

Ayder is closed to cars during the event. In 2026 the organizer ran free shuttles from Rize-Artvin Airport to the Ayder car park in the days before the race, and from the car park into the village every 5 to 10 minutes.

Crewing

Crews may only meet runners at three aid stations: Yukarı Kavrun (100K and 50K), Avusor (the 100K's Life Base) and Galer (50K). Supporter shuttles leave Ayder for each of them. Only the 100K has a drop bag on the course. You get the bag at bib pickup and leave it by the start, and it waits for you at Avusor.

Weather and what to carry

The organizer gives September averages of about 10 to 20 °C, much colder higher up and at night. The 2025 race was in late September, and snow cancelled the 100K.

The kit list is long for the 100K and 50K: a waterproof jacket with a hood, a warm layer, full-length leg cover, waterproof gloves, an emergency blanket, a whistle, 800 kcal of food, your own cup and cutlery, and a smartphone with roaming. The 50K needs a headlamp. The 100K needs two, plus crampons or snow chains and 1.5 liters of water. The organizer confirms the final list a day or two before the race.
