Ultra-Trail Harricana 2027 course maps

The 125K, 80K and 65K through the Charlevoix backcountry to Mont Grand-Fonds, with aid stations, cutoffs and crew points.

September 10 to 12, 2027 La Malbaie, Charlevoix, Quebec

Ultra-Trail Harricana is a weekend of trail races in Charlevoix, Quebec, from a 5K to a 125K. The 125K, 80K, 65K and 42K Classic all finish at Mont Grand-Fonds, a ski area outside La Malbaie. The 2027 edition, the 16th, runs September 10 to 12.

The 125K starts in the Zec des Martres and follows the Traversée de Charlevoix east, past its backcountry huts, through the Parc national des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie. The 80K and 65K start in that park, at the 125K's halfway point, and share its second half.

The map shows the organizer's 2026 course lines, with 2026's start times and cutoffs; the 2027 ones aren't out yet. It pins the stations at the huts and the park's service centres, but not Mont du Lac à l'Empêche, Morios, Lac-au-Sable, Split Näak or Montagne Noire. The organizer says many aid stations are hard to reach, so download the map before you go.

You start at 1 PM on Friday and run through the night. Most of it is technical singletrack with rocks and roots, over four summits: Mont du Lac à l'Empêche, Mont Morios, Mont Noyée and, last, Montagne Noire before the drop to the finish. The organizer says only about half the starters have finished since 2016.

The 2026 chart puts aid at km 15.1 (Mont du Lac à l'Empêche), water at km 27.4 (Morios), then Marmotte at 34.5. Your drop bag waits at Hautes-Gorges, km 60.9, where every runner still in the race answers a short medical questionnaire. After Coyote come water at Lac-au-Sable (km 93.5), Épervier, Split Näak (km 109.2) and Montagne Noire (km 116.5). The cutoffs shown are 2026's.

You start at 6 AM on Saturday at the park's welcome area and spend the first 15 km or so on a loop of the valley: the Riverain trail climbs through forest to the Érables dam, then you run along the Malbaie River. From Geai Bleu you're on the 65K and 125K course to the finish.

In 2026 there was water at Geai Bleu and Lac-au-Sable (km 47.6) and aid at Split Näak (km 63.1, cutoff 18:43) and Montagne Noire (km 70.5) besides the stops on the map.

The 65K starts at the entrance to the Hautes-Gorges park, the 125K's halfway point, with views of the Malbaie River before it climbs into the mountains. Expect rooty singletrack through dense evergreen forest. The organizer says the fastest runners take about 5 h 30.

In 2026 it started in three waves, at 6:30, 7:15 and 8:00 AM, by the finish time you expected. Water was at Geai Bleu and Lac-au-Sable (km 32.6), with aid at Split Näak (km 48.2, cutoff 17:59) and Montagne Noire (km 55.6) as well as the stops on the map.

The shorter races

The 42K Classic starts Saturday morning in the Zec du Lac-au-Sable and joins the long courses for their last 30 km or so. The organizer calls it the faster, less technical of the two marathons, and it sells out quickly. The 42K Saint-Siméon, on Sunday from Saint-Siméon, is more technical and draws the stronger elite field. You can run both.

The 30K (part of the QC Cup), both 20Ks and the 10K are loops from Mont Grand-Fonds, the 20K Night Duo on Saturday evening. There's also a 5K and kids' races.

The 60K runs the first 60 km of the 125K and finishes at Hautes-Gorges. For 2027 its 60 bibs go by lottery: $10 tickets on sale from October 6, 2026, a draw on January 9, 2027, and $215 plus taxes for the winners. All the profits go to MS Canada.

Registration

Entry for 2027 is open on Eventbrite. You can't transfer an entry to someone else or defer it to another year.

Bibs aren't handed out at the starts. In 2026 you could pick yours up in Montréal on Tuesday, Québec City on Wednesday or La Malbaie on Thursday. From Friday there was pickup at Mont Grand-Fonds too, for every race but the 125K. For 42K and longer, bring your mandatory gear to pickup to be checked.

Getting to La Malbaie

La Malbaie is about two hours' drive from Québec City and four and a half from Montréal, and Mont Grand-Fonds is 15 minutes from downtown. The nearest international airports are Québec City's Jean-Lesage and Montréal-Trudeau. A car helps, though free public shuttles run all day between downtown La Malbaie, Clermont, the Chutes Fraser campground and Mont Grand-Fonds.

The long courses are point to point, so you need a ride to the start, and the race runs buses. In 2026 you booked a seat between August 1 and September 1, first come, first served, from Clermont or a stop in La Malbaie. Someone can drop you at the start instead, except for the 42K Classic, which only the buses reach.

Crewing and pacing

Only 125K runners can have a crew, and only at Marmotte, Hautes-Gorges and Split Näak. Crews register in advance and pay one fee per team; in 2026 registration closed at noon on August 30. Crews bring their own food, water and chairs and stay out of the aid stations.

You can't drive to Marmotte. Park at the Saint-Aimé-des-Lacs racecourse, 188 rue Principale, and take the shuttle, which runs every half hour from 1:30 PM Friday. Ride it back, then drive about 30 minutes to Hautes-Gorges, paying $10 a person at the SEPAQ entrance; from there it's another hour to Mont Grand-Fonds. Split Näak is a 4 km walk from Mont Grand-Fonds, or 1.5 km by shuttle and the rest on foot, and only one person per runner can go.

Pacers are allowed on two stretches of the 125K only: Marmotte to Hautes-Gorges (25.5 km) and Split Näak to the finish (about 15 km). They register too, carry the same mandatory gear as you, and get nothing from the aid stations.

Weather

The organizer gives seasonal normals in the Charlevoix backcountry of about 6°C at night and 18°C by day. It warns that rain here is freezing cold and that nights on the summits can drop to freezing. Pack a waterproof, windproof jacket and warm layers, more than you'd take for a September race around Montréal.

Harricana FAQ

When is Ultra-Trail Harricana 2027?

September 10 to 12, 2027, the 16th edition. In 2026 the 125K started on Friday, the 80K, 65K and 42K Classic on Saturday, and the 42K Saint-Siméon on Sunday.

Is Harricana a Western States qualifier?

Yes. Finishing the 125K in under 26 hours qualifies. Western States lists the 2027 race as a qualifier for its 2028 run.

Can you have a pacer at Harricana?

Only in the 125K, from Marmotte to Hautes-Gorges and from Split Näak to the finish. Pacers must register and carry the mandatory gear.

Where can crews meet runners at the Harricana 125K?

At Marmotte, Hautes-Gorges and Split Näak. Marmotte is reached only by the race shuttle from Saint-Aimé-des-Lacs, and Split Näak on foot, with a shuttle for part of the way. No other race allows crews.

How hard is the Harricana 125K?

It climbs 4,028 m over 124.1 km of mostly technical, rooty singletrack, with a 29 hour limit. The organizer says only about half the starters have finished since 2016.

Which Harricana 42K should I run?

The Classic, on Saturday, is faster and less technical. The Saint-Siméon, on Sunday, is more technical and has the stronger elite field. You can run both, one each day.
