DoloMyths Run course maps and aid stations

Three races from the square in Canazei over a July weekend: a vertical to Col Rodella, a 42.5 km loop facing the Marmolada, and the skyrace to the top of Piz Boè.

July 9 to 11, 2027 Canazei, Val di Fassa, Trentino

The DoloMyths Run is a weekend of mountain races in Canazei, at the head of Val di Fassa. It started in 1998 as the Dolomites Skyrace, and the skyrace is still the main event: 22 km from Piazza Marconi to the summit of Piz Boè (3,152 m) in the Sella group and back down. The 42.5 km Fassa Trail makes a big high loop past Lake Fedaia and along the Viel dal Pan ridge facing the Marmolada. New for 2027 is the V-Rodella, a 4.9 km vertical from the square to Col Rodella.

The organizer encourages runners to download the GPS track and carry it during the race, and on the Fassa Trail straying more than 20 m from the flags means disqualification. Put the map on your phone before you go. The aid stations here follow the 2027 regulations, placed with the organizer's 2025 SkyRace and Fassa Trail files because the 2027 tracks aren't out yet, and the V-Rodella's GPX is still listed as coming soon.

This is an unofficial guide: Goat Maps isn't affiliated with DoloMyths Run. Check the official site before you enter or race.

The first 10 km are all uphill: out of Canazei to Passo Pordoi, then up to Forcella Pordoi and on to Piz Boè. The last pitch up the summit pyramid is almost all fixed ropes, and poles are banned on it. The other 12 km are the descent, past Rifugio Boè and down Val Lasties to Pian Schiavaneis and back to Canazei. The route is graded EE, for expert hikers, with exposed passages that aren't always roped.

You have 2h30 to reach Forcella Pordoi and 3h30 to reach Rifugio Boè, the hut below the summit rather than the one on top. Passo Pordoi and Rifugio Boè serve drinks only. The organizer gives no distances for the aid stations, so the km here are measured on its 2025 track.

You leave Canazei through the villages of Alba and Penia to Pian Trevisan, then climb the old military road to Lake Fedaia. After the dam the course heads to Padon and follows the whole Viel dal Pan ridge, with the Marmolada across the valley, to Rifugio Belvedere. From there it drops to Lupo Bianco, climbs the old road to Col Rodella and descends to the finish in Piazza Marconi.

It's run semi-self-sufficient: Pian Trevisan, Col de Pausa and Pian Frataces have liquids only, and the aid stations hand out no cups. The cutoffs are 2h30 at Passo Fedaia, 5h30 at Rifugio Belvedere and 8 hours at Col Rodella, and you have to leave each before its time.

The V-Rodella opens the weekend on Friday afternoon with a mass start in Piazza Marconi, the elite runners at the front. It climbs mountain trails, graded EE, to the finish at Col Rodella above Campitello at 2,388 m. There are two drinks stations on the way and food at the top.

You can't run back down the course. Your bib gets you a free ride down the cable car to Campitello and a shuttle back to Piazza Marconi. Hand in a bag of clothes to change into by 3:00 PM and it'll be waiting at the finish. The organizer hasn't published the course yet, so the map shows only the start and finish.

Entering

Entry is online through the official site, paid by card, and closes on 5 July 2027. After that you can still enter at the race office. The SkyRace is €70 and capped at 800 runners. The Fassa Trail is €60 until 30 June and €65 after, and the V-Rodella €30 until 30 June and €40 after, capped at 200. If a race fills early, the organizer may open a waiting list.

Every race needs you to be 18 or older with a medical certificate for competitive sport, valid for athletics, skyrunning, mountaineering, ski mountaineering, cross-country skiing or cycling. Fees aren't refunded, and you can't transfer a bib or defer to another year.

Getting to Canazei

By car, leave the A22 Brenner motorway at Ora/Egna and take the SS48 over Passo San Lugano, about 45 km to the valley, or leave at Bolzano Nord and cross Passo Carezza on the SS241, 40 km to Vigo di Fassa. The nearest stations are Trento, Bolzano and Ora, with daily buses up the valley. On Saturdays and Sundays in July and August, a Freccialink connection runs from Ora/Auer station.

The closest airport is Bolzano, 40 km from Val di Fassa. Treviso is 160 km away, Venice Marco Polo 175, Verona 180 and Innsbruck 190.

Bibs are handed out in the council room of Canazei's town hall on the square: for the V-Rodella on Friday from 11:00 AM to 3:30 PM, for the Fassa Trail Friday 3:00 to 7:00 PM or Saturday 5:30 to 6:30 AM, and for the SkyRace Saturday 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM or Sunday 6:00 to 7:45 AM.

Support and dropping out

On the SkyRace and the Fassa Trail your own support crew can help you anywhere on the course, as long as they carry their rubbish back down. On the Fassa Trail nobody who isn't entered may accompany you, and on the V-Rodella nobody may accompany you at all.

If you drop out, tell the nearest checkpoint and show your bib. Shuttles bring SkyRace runners back to Canazei from Passo Pordoi and Pian Schiavaneis, and Fassa Trail runners from Passo Fedaia, Passo Pordoi, Lupo Bianco and Col Rodella. On the Fassa Trail you also hand back the GPS tracker.

Weather and kit

The Fassa Trail rules warn that its high ridges can bring cold, fog, wind, and rain or snow. The organizer may change the route or stop a race for safety.

On the SkyRace you need only your bib, a windproof jacket and trail shoes with good soles. Poles take some planning: hand them in at the race office by 7:30 AM and pick them up at Passo Pordoi for the climb. Fold them away for the summit pyramid, or give non-folding ones to the staff at Forcella Pordoi. They come back to Canazei after 1:30 PM.

The Fassa Trail list is longer: ID, a pack, a bottle or bladder holding at least 1 litre, first aid kit, survival blanket, whistle, food, waterproof windproof jacket, long running trousers, gloves and hat, a folding cup, your phone and the organizer's GPS tracker. It also suggests €20 in cash for the huts, and if you start with poles you have to finish with them.

DoloMyths FAQ

When is the DoloMyths Run 2027?

From 9 to 11 July 2027 in Canazei. The V-Rodella starts at 4:00 PM on Friday 9 July, the Fassa Trail at 7:00 AM on Saturday 10 July, and the SkyRace at 8:15 AM on Sunday 11 July, all from Piazza Marconi.

How hard is the DoloMyths SkyRace?

It climbs for 10 km to 3,152 m and comes down 12 km, with 1,750 m of climbing in all and a 5h30 limit. The route is graded EE, for expert hikers, with steep and loose ground and fixed ropes on the summit pyramid. The organizer suggests checking the course in the days before.

Can I use poles on the SkyRace?

Yes, but not on the Piz Boè pyramid. The organizer carries them to Passo Pordoi if you hand them in by 7:30 AM, and you either fold them away for the summit or leave them with the staff at Forcella Pordoi.

Do I need a medical certificate for the DoloMyths Run?

Yes. Every race asks for a valid competitive sports medical certificate, the kind for high cardiovascular intensity sport, and you must be at least 18.

How do I get down after the V-Rodella?

By cable car. Running back down the course isn't allowed, so your bib gets you a free ride from Col Rodella to Campitello and a shuttle to Piazza Marconi in Canazei.

Is there a GPX of the DoloMyths courses?

The organizer's site links the 2025 Fassa Trail GPX and virtual tours of the SkyRace and Fassa Trail. The 2027 V-Rodella track is listed as coming soon.
