Cascade Crest 100 course map and aid stations

A 100 mile trail race from the Easton fire station along the Pacific Crest Trail in Washington's Cascades.

July 16 to 17, 2027 Easton, Washington

Cascade Crest has been run from Easton, Washington, since 1999. It starts and finishes at the town's fire station, and in a normal year it's a clockwise loop with 30 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail and a run through the old Snoqualmie railroad tunnel.

The Three Queens Fire started the day before the 2026 race, which ran as an out-and-back: from Easton onto the PCT and north to Hyak, at Snoqualmie Pass, then back the same way. The organizer says 2027 will most likely use that out-and-back again, and won't know for sure until close to July. The aid stations and cutoffs on this page are from the 2026 out-and-back, and the 2027 course may differ.

The organizer calls this a remote wilderness event, and most of its aid stations are hike-in or closed to crews. Download the map before you go, whether you're running or crewing: your phone's GPS shows where you are without a signal.

This is the course the race ran in 2026 and expects to use again in 2027: 102 miles with more than 23,000 feet of climbing and a 35 hour limit. The miles and cutoffs in the table are from the 2026 runner's manual.

You leave the fire station and climb the switchbacks to Goat Peak. The course notes compare that climb to the Escarpment at the start of Western States, with rougher footing. A ridge takes you toward Cole Butte, and an old logging road drops you to the Saddle at mile 12.5, the first full aid station (Goat Peak is water only on the way out). From there the course skips the usual loop over Blowout Mountain and joins the PCT, which you follow north through Tacoma Pass, Stampede Pass and Olallie Meadows. A steep descent with fixed ropes then takes you down to the Palouse to Cascades Trail and through the Snoqualmie Tunnel to Hyak, at mile 51.

From Hyak you turn around: back through the tunnel, up the ropes and south on the PCT the way you came. Little Bear, Snowshoe Butte and Meadow Mountain are small hike-in stations with limited supplies, and the longest stretches between stations are the 8 miles from Goat Peak to the Saddle and the 7 from Stampede Pass to Meadow Mountain.

Registration and requirements

Entry is by lottery on UltraSignup. For 2027 it's open from December 6 to January 4, and the results and waitlist come out January 15. The field is capped at 180, and the entry fee is $350 plus tax and UltraSignup fees.

Your tickets double each year you enter without starting the race, and go back to zero once you start. Volunteering at the previous race weekend adds one to three tickets, good for the next lottery only.

If you get in, you owe 8 hours of trail work with an organized crew such as the PCTA or WTA by June 13, 2027, or a $150 buyout. You also need a qualifier: any 100 mile trail race you've finished, or a trail 50 miler run in under 16 hours with at least 6,500 feet of climbing between January 1 and June 13, 2027. Drop out by June 13 and you get $150 back. Entries can't be transferred.

Getting to Easton

The race starts and finishes at the Easton Fire Station, 180 Cabin Creek Road, off exit 71 of I-90. The organizer recommends flying into SeaTac, about 75 miles away.

Easton has little lodging. You can camp at Lake Easton State Park or at a Forest Service site near town, or stay in Cle Elum, about 10 miles away, or at Snoqualmie Pass near Hyak. Camping at the fire station isn't allowed: it's a working one. For last-minute food, the organizer points you to the Safeway in Cle Elum.

Crewing and pacing

On the 2026 course, crews could meet runners at Stampede Pass in both directions, at Hyak, at Tacoma Pass and the Saddle on the way back, and at the finish. Stay away from Tacoma Pass on the way out: the organizer asks crews not to come. Exit 62 off I-90 leads to Tacoma Pass, Stampede Pass and the Saddle, and the race asks for one car per runner at each. The road to the Saddle is long, bumpy and often overgrown, and the manual asks crews to think about skipping it. Hyak is the easy one, with plenty of parking, though you need a Washington Discover Pass to park there.

Pacers can join at Hyak, at mile 51, or start or swap at Stampede Pass, Tacoma Pass or the Saddle on the way back. Runners over 60 can have one from Stampede Pass on the way out. Until Walnut Lane, near the finish, it's one pacer at a time and on foot. Your pacer can't carry your gear for you. Cars aren't allowed on Walnut Lane, so walk or bike in if you want to run the last mile and a half with your runner.

Weather and what to carry

July at Stampede Pass averages a high of 68°F and a low of 50°F, by NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals. The manual warns that the race has seen temperatures in the 100s and has also seen snow, and that on a drizzly or cloudy day the high sections get much colder than you expect.

The only required gear is a light, and you have to leave Stampede Pass with one on the way out. Bees and ground wasps turn up most years in the first 30 miles, and aid stations don't hand out medication, so carry your own if you react badly to stings.

Cascade Crest FAQ

When is Cascade Crest 2027?

Friday, July 16, 2027, starting at 9:00 AM from the Easton Fire Station. On the out-and-back course the time limit is 35 hours, so the finish closes at 8:00 PM on Saturday.

Will Cascade Crest 2027 use the normal course?

Probably not. The Three Queens Fire started the day before the 2026 race, and the organizer says it may have left no way through the second half of the usual loop. It expects 2027 to be the out-and-back to Hyak used in 2026, and won't know for sure until close to July. The aid stations on this page are from that 2026 course.

Is Cascade Crest a Western States qualifier?

Yes. Western States lists the 2026 and 2027 races as qualifiers for its 2027 and 2028 lotteries if you finish in under 34 hours, an hour inside the race's own 35 hour limit on the out-and-back.

Can you have a pacer at Cascade Crest?

Yes, from Hyak at mile 51, or from Stampede Pass, Tacoma Pass or the Saddle on the way back. Runners over 60 can start with a pacer at Stampede Pass on the way out.

How much climbing is Cascade Crest?

More than 23,000 feet over 102 miles on the 2026 out-and-back. The organizer gives the same figure for the usual loop, and says the out-and-back is slightly longer with more climbing.

Can I bring my dog to Cascade Crest?

Not on the course: dogs haven't been allowed to run with you since 2023. A dog on a leash can wait with your crew at the aid stations.
