BWR Mexico course maps

The Belgian Waffle Ride's November gravel race in Querétaro's wine and cheese country, at 180, 100 and 50 km or more.

November 21 to 22, 2026 Querétaro, Mexico

BWR Mexico is the Belgian Waffle Ride's race in central Mexico, a Sunday of gravel and old cobbled lanes in the wine and cheese country around Tequisquiapan, Querétaro. The 2026 edition is its fourth and the last date on the BWR calendar for the year. Nearly 700 people rode it in 2025.

All three distances start together at 7:30 am. The Waffle is billed at 180 km or more and is for gravel bikes only; the Wafer at 100 km or more and the Wanna at 50 km or more take gravel or mountain bikes. The 2026 routes aren't out yet, so the map shows the 2025 courses from the organizer's GPX files, which started and finished at Viñedo La Redonda. For 2026 the start and finish move to Bodegas De Cote, near Ezequiel Montes, which is on the map too.

In 2025 the organizer warned that sections and distances could change, and told riders to check the final GPX and route the day before the race. Download the map anyway. With the line on your phone, GPS shows where you are and which way the course goes, even without a signal.

The 2025 Waffle went the furthest of the three. It ran out west from La Redonda, came back through Las Cenizas, then swung south-east of the start through La Higuera and Sombrerete. The organizer's 2025 routes crossed the municipalities of Ezequiel Montes, Tequisquiapan and Colón on fast asphalt, old cobbled lanes and gravel, and the whole track stayed between about 1,880 and 2,200 m above sea level.

For 2026 the Waffle is billed at 180 km or more from a new start at Bodegas De Cote, so expect a different line from this one. It's the only distance with cash prizes, for the top five women and the top five men overall.

The 2025 Wanna was a loop south and east of La Redonda, passing La Higuera, Sombrerete and El Ciervo, and never went much above 2,070 m. The 2026 Wanna is billed at 50 km or more.

The organizer's schedule has the first Wanna riders finishing around 9:45 am. E-bikes have their own category here too.

Registration and fees

Entry is online at bwrmexico.com, with the field capped at 1,000. The organizer's call for participation lists $150 USD for the Waffle and Wafer and $125 USD for the Wanna until October 31, 2026. From November 1 the Waffle and Wafer go up to $199 USD and the Wanna to $150 USD. The online checkout charges in pesos, and the organizer resets those prices to the exchange rate every Monday. In mid-October it showed MXN 1,900 for the Waffle or Wafer and MXN 1,600 for the Wanna, plus a service fee. If you need an invoice (factura) the 16% VAT is added on top. Groups of more than ten can email the organizer for a discount code.

Your entry gets you a timing chip, a finisher's medal, medical stations on the course and at the finish, Shimano neutral mechanical support, aid and hydration stations along the route, a sweep van, waffles and coffee before the start and a beer at the finish.

Fly into Querétaro Intercontinental Airport, which has direct flights from Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Chicago and Los Angeles among others. Tequisquiapan is within an hour's drive of Querétaro city and about two hours from Mexico City.

The weekend starts with a meet and greet on Friday, November 20, at 6 pm. The Gravel Expo and number pickup are on Saturday, November 21, at Bodegas De Cote, with pickup closing at 6 pm. The organizer's Spanish info page lists three host hotels in and around Tequisquiapan: Quinta Tequisquiapan, Hoteles Rio Tequisquiapan and Hacienda Real La Nogalera. For help with travel or rooms, write to info@bwrmexico.com or message +52 442 771 3504 on WhatsApp.

Riding on open roads

The course runs on public roads open to traffic. Keep to the far right: riding in the left lane is forbidden. Helmets are mandatory and headphones aren't allowed.

The organizer doesn't publish cutoffs for each distance, but it sets a pace for reaching the assistance and regrouping points, and if you're behind it you have to shorten your ride or take the sweep van. Shimano mechanics are on the course, but carry a spare tube, tire levers and a mini pump anyway.

Weather and what to bring

November is the dry season here. In Querétaro city the average November high is 24.9 °C and the low 8.9 °C, with about 10 mm of rain on two or three days in the month. At 7:30 am in the corrals you'll be near the low, so bring a layer you can stuff in a pocket once the sun is up.

The courses sit at 1,880 m and higher. Expect strong sun by midday and carry more to drink than you would at sea level.
