Big Sugar Gravel course maps and aid stations

Gravel courses of 25, 50 and 100 miles out of Bentonville into the Ozarks of Arkansas and Missouri, all raced on one Saturday in October.

2027 dates not announced yet, usually in October Bentonville, Arkansas

Big Sugar Gravel is Life Time's end-of-season gravel race from Bentonville, Arkansas, and the sixth and final round of the 2026 Life Time Grand Prix. All three courses start and finish at The Momentary and head into the Ozarks. The organizer describes canopy-covered roads along Sugar Creek and through the bluffs and hollers, on rarely maintained gravel that's loose and rocky, with a few paved stretches and some water crossings. The 100 mile reaches Pineville, Missouri.

The map shows the organizer's 2026 course lines, with their aid stations, for the race on October 17, 2026. The 2027 date isn't out yet.

The organizer warns that cell service on the course is spotty, and you navigate yourself on roads open to traffic. Download this map before you go, and GPS will show where you are on the 2026 line without a signal.

The 2026 course is 101.8 miles with about 6,400 feet of climbing. The elite men start at 7:25 AM, the elite women at 7:35 and the age groups at 7:50. Pineville, at mile 40, has a noon cutoff, and Rockford Grange, at mile 78, has a 4:00 PM cutoff. The organizer sets the cutoffs on an average of 10 mph, and if you miss one you're no longer an official rider.

Rockford Grange is private land, and its main venue was built in the 1960s for Olympic judo training. It's closed to riders before race day, so don't try to ride that section ahead of time. From there it's about 24 miles to the finish. In 2025, severe storms and a tornado watch moved every 100 mile rider onto the 50 mile course.

It's 58 miles in 2026, with about 3,500 feet of climbing and an 8:30 AM start. The only aid station is Whistling Springs Brewery at mile 25, and crews can't meet you there.

That leaves 33 miles from the brewery to the finish on what you carry, plus anything you buy at stores along the way, so fill up before you leave.

Registration

Registration is through Let's Do This. For 2026 it opened on March 2 at 10 AM Central. Life Time members got in a week earlier, on February 23, and riders who had deferred got in on February 16. Fees were $100 for the 25 mile, $180 for the 50 and $225 for the 100. The 2027 dates and registration aren't posted yet.

If the field fills, the organizer points you to the waitlist (if one opens), coaching and charity entries, or volunteering: 10 hours at the event earns an entry for the following year. A deferral holds your spot for the next year, but you pay that year's full fee again.

Getting to Bentonville

Every course starts and finishes at The Momentary, 507 SE E Street in Bentonville, which also hosts the expo and packet pickup on Thursday and Friday. You have to pick up your own packet, with a government photo ID: no one can collect it for you.

Northwest Arkansas National Airport (XNA), in Highfill, takes the region's commercial flights. If you'd rather not fly with your bike, Bikeflights is the race's official shipping service.

Support crews and dropping out

Only 100 mile riders can have a crew, and only at the two checkpoints, Pineville and Rockford Grange. Crews can't drive the course's gravel roads, and if a support vehicle is spotted on the course, its rider is disqualified. There are no drop bags on any course. The organizer's parking maps for both checkpoints are on the gravel page.

If you drop out, make your way to somewhere your crew can reach. Without a pickup, a SAG Jeep will take you to the nearest checkpoint, where shuttles carry riders and bikes back to Bentonville. The race hotline is 719-257-3938, and since cell service is spotty, the Jeeps carry HAM radios.

Weather and what to carry

Bentonville's October normals are a high of 71°F (22°C) and a low of 46°F (8°C), with 3.4 inches (86 mm) of rain over the month. Storms do come through: in 2025 they cut the 100 mile to 50.

The rules say you must carry a cycling computer or GPS, at least 2 liters of water or sports drink, two spare tubes, a pump and a phone. Aerobars and clip-on extensions aren't allowed. The aid stations stock water, Neversecond nutrition, Mapleaid drink mix, waffles, pickles, bananas, chips and cookies. Bring cash or a card as well, since you're allowed to resupply at stores along the route.

Big Sugar FAQ

When is Big Sugar Gravel 2027?

It hasn't been announced. Life Time has named Big Sugar Gravel as one of the seven rounds of the 2027 Life Time Grand Prix, without a date. The 2026 race date is Saturday, October 17, the last day of a week of events in Bentonville that opens with Little Sugar MTB.

Is Big Sugar Gravel an Unbound qualifier?

Yes, the 100 mile is. At least 50 entries to Unbound Gravel go to 100 mile finishers who make the cutoff. Half go to the top riders in each category and half to a drawing after the awards. You have to be at the ceremony with the tear-off tab from your bike plate, and be 18 or older by Unbound's race day. The coin guarantees a spot in the Unbound 100 or 200, the next year or the one after, but you still pay the entry fee.

Where can crews meet riders at Big Sugar?

Only on the 100 mile, at Pineville (mile 40) and Rockford Grange (mile 78). The 50 and 25 mile courses have no crew access, and a crew vehicle seen anywhere on the course gets its rider disqualified.

Is there cell service on the Big Sugar course?

It's spotty, the organizer says, and its SAG Jeeps carry HAM radios because they get through better. You have to carry a phone anyway, so download this map to it and you'll have the 2026 course lines offline.

How much climbing is Big Sugar Gravel?

About 6,400 feet on the 2026 100 mile, 3,500 on the 50 and 1,500 on the 25, on rarely maintained gravel that's loose and rocky in places. On the 100, the cutoffs are noon at Pineville and 4:00 PM at Rockford Grange.

Can you use aerobars at Big Sugar?

No. The rules ban aerobars, bar extensions and clip-ons of any kind, and your bike needs two hand-operated brakes.
