BC Bike Race dates and stage locations

Five days of British Columbia singletrack in 2027, from Whistler to Vancouver Island. The 2027 courses aren't out yet, so the map marks where 2026's seven stages started and finished.

May 24 to 28, 2027 Whistler to North Cowichan, British Columbia

BC Bike Race is a mountain bike stage race through British Columbia, first run in 2007. The 2026 edition was its 20th and the last of the seven-day format: 855 riders from 35 countries rode from Cumberland to North Cowichan on Vancouver Island.

In 2027 it shrinks to five days, May 24 to 28, and you pick a Classic XC course or a new Enduro course. The race starts in Whistler, rides Squamish the next day, takes the ferry across to Vancouver Island, then races Cumberland, Hammerfest outside Parksville (XC only) and North Cowichan. The organizer says the 2027 courses will be detailed in early 2027.

Until then, the map marks where each 2026 stage started and finished. They aren't the 2027 courses, but five of them, in Cumberland, Hammerfest, Mount Tzouhalem and Maple Mountain, are the ones the organizer points 2027 riders to for training. The race handbook tells you that if there's no cell service when someone is hurt, you send word with another rider. Download the map before you go: GPS shows where you are without a signal.

Stage 1

BC Bike Race 2026: Cumberland 1

A fire road climb out of Cumberland, then mostly downhill on the network's favourite trails.

Distance
27.6 km (17.1 mi)
Climbing
746 m (2,448 ft)

The course line isn't drawn yet, so the map only pins where the aid stations are.

The 2026 race started in a chute on Dunsmuir Avenue, Cumberland's main street, and climbed a fire road so each wave could spread out before the singletrack. From the top it was mostly downhill: Bucket of Blood, Bear Buns and the Vanilla trails, then the technical features of Scat, Brat, 2 Flats and Bonestorm near the bottom. An access road took riders back to basecamp at Cumberland Village Park.

Cumberland is on the 2027 route too, as Stage 3.

Stage 2

BC Bike Race 2026: Campbell River

The longest day of 2026, on fast, smooth trails in the Snowden Demonstration Forest.

Distance
47.6 km (29.6 mi)
Climbing
843 m (2,766 ft)

The course line isn't drawn yet, so the map only pins where the aid stations are.

A remote start at PRT Growing Services in Campbell River, where riders who drove themselves parked in a field by the start line. The loop ran through the second-growth forest of the Snowden Demonstration Forest and Elk Falls Provincial Park, past lakes and out onto open rocky bluffs, on trails like Tres Hombres, Jabberwocky, Rotary Rock and Roll and Dean Martin.

At 47.6 km it was the longest stage of 2026, but the race reports call Snowden fast and flowing. Campbell River isn't on the 2027 route.

Stage 3

BC Bike Race 2026: Cumberland 2

The climbing day: up Sobo no Michi to the top of the network and down to the village.

Distance
38.3 km (23.8 mi)
Climbing
1,261 m (4,137 ft)

The course line isn't drawn yet, so the map only pins where the aid stations are.

A short gravel doubletrack spread the field, then Sobo no Michi, a purpose-built climbing trail, took riders to the upper network. From there it was mostly descending with punchy climbs between, on Race Rocks, Felicia, Thirsty Beaver, Field of Dreams and Woodcutter, and from the top of Nikkei Mountain the course dropped all the way back to Cumberland.

With 1,261 m of climbing it had the most of any 2026 stage. It rained that day, and the race report describes wet roots on Furtherburger and slick, exposed rock slabs on Race Rocks.

Stage 4

BC Bike Race 2026: Parksville/Hammerfest

Old growth forest from Englishman River Falls, then hard climbs and fast descents at Hammerfest.

Distance
31.8 km (19.8 mi)
Climbing
1,107 m (3,632 ft)

The course line isn't drawn yet, so the map only pins where the aid stations are.

Hammerfest was new to the race in 2026. The stage started in the parking lot at the end of Errington Road, in Englishman River Falls Provincial Park, and rode through old growth cedar, Douglas fir and hemlock into the Hammerfest network. Locals call it "sufferfest" for its climbs. Up top were views of Mount Arrowsmith and the Strait of Georgia, then descents like 7 Day/Tom Cat Ridge, Insurrection, Scooby Doo and Dead Horses. The falls are right next to the finish.

Stage 5

BC Bike Race 2026: Mount Tzouhalem, North Cowichan

The shortest stage: five climbs around Mount Tzouhalem.

Distance
21.5 km (13.4 mi)
Climbing
845 m (2,772 ft)

The course line isn't drawn yet, so the map only pins where the aid stations are.

A loop from the Nevilane Drive parking lot that circled Mount Tzouhalem with five climbs and the descents between them, an up-and-down day instead of one big climb and one big descent. The handbook singles out Double D, the mountain's favourite flow trail.

The lot sits in a residential neighbourhood: if it's full you park on the road, and you don't block driveways. In 2027, Mount Tzouhalem is the Enduro course's last day.

Stage 6

BC Bike Race 2026: Nanaimo

Three of Nanaimo's trail networks, from the university to a cidery finish.

Distance
33.9 km (21.1 mi)
Climbing
1,021 m (3,350 ft)

The course line isn't drawn yet, so the map only pins where the aid stations are.

The stage started at Vancouver Island University, where drivers parked in lots A, B and C off Fifth Street. It went into The Abyss first, on trails like This Bud's 4 U and The Abyss itself, crossed to the Extension area for Black Keys and Gatekeeper, then rode Mount Benson toward Westwood Lake. A pedal by the lake led to the finish at Big Bang Cider, a short spin from the university.

Nanaimo isn't on the 2027 route.

Stage 7

BC Bike Race 2026: Maple Mountain, North Cowichan

Over Richards and Maple Mountains and back to basecamp for a sprint finish.

Distance
44.8 km (27.8 mi)
Climbing
1,079 m (3,540 ft)

The course line isn't drawn yet, so the map only pins where the aid stations are.

The final stage left straight from basecamp at Cowichan Exhibition Park on country roads, crossed the smaller Richards Mountain and climbed Maple Mountain's trails, some of them technical. The payoff was a 380 m descent on Maple Syrup and the bermy Phloem, then Solar Coaster and Logger's Lane. An untimed spin took riders back to basecamp, where a timed sprint ended the day.

Maple Mountain is the 2027 XC course's last day, on May 28.

Registration

Entry is through BikeReg, linked from the race's registration page. Registration for 2027 opened on May 14, 2026. Super Early Bird pricing was limited, and when this page was checked the organizer said Early Bird spots were nearly sold out. The XC race is capped at 450 riders and the Enduro at 150.

You have to be 15 on the first day of racing, and riders under 18 need a parent there for the week. The entry fee covers the race only. Transport between stages, camping or vanlife at basecamp and meal plans are add-ons, and the ferry to Vancouver Island is extra. The organizer strongly recommends the insurance offered at checkout.

Getting there and between stages

Fly into Vancouver (YVR), about two hours from Whistler by Highway 99, the Sea to Sky Highway. Registration is on May 23, the day before the start, and everyone has to attend the pre-race meeting.

Midweek the race crosses to Vancouver Island by BC Ferries, Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo. To fly home, the organizer suggests Nanaimo (YCD), the closest airport to the Cowichan Valley, or Victoria (YYJ), 1.5 hours' drive away. If you fly home from Vancouver, book a ferry sailing ahead.

You get yourself to Whistler for registration day. After that the transport add-on runs between the stages, and to the nearest airport the day after the race, but not to hotels. In 2026, riders who drove themselves parked at each remote start.

On course and at basecamp

Each day has one aid station with water, pickle juice, electrolytes and snacks, and a tech station with spare parts. You can't leave your own food or bottles on course, so carry everything else you need. In 2026 the start went in waves of 50 every four minutes for an hour from 10 a.m., seeded after the first day on the previous day's results, and each stage had one individually timed downhill.

There's no GPX: follow the pink ribbon. The organizer posts stage routes on Trailforks once they're about 90% final, and warns they may not match race day exactly. Supporters have to get themselves to the cheer stations, which the race marks when the course allows.

Weather and what to carry

The organizer gives May highs of 15 to 20°C (60 to 70°F) and lows of 9 to 12°C (48 to 54°F) where the race rides. A sunny start can end in cold rain, so carry a jacket every day, and bring warm clothes for the evenings.

Basecamp mechanics carry limited parts. The 2026 handbook asked riders to bring their own spares, including two derailleur hangers, three sets of brake pads, a chain, two tires and four tubes.

BC Bike Race FAQ

When is BC Bike Race 2027?

May 24 to 28, 2027, with registration and the racer meeting on May 23. It is five days long, down from seven in 2026, and finishes as the second BC Bike Fest starts in North Cowichan.

Where does BC Bike Race 2027 go?

Stage 1 is Whistler, Stage 2 Squamish, then the ferry to Vancouver Island and Stage 3 in Cumberland. Stage 4 is Cumberland for Enduro and Hammerfest for XC, and Stage 5 is North Cowichan: Mount Tzouhalem for Enduro, Maple Mountain for XC. The organizer says the locations and their order may change.

Does BC Bike Race publish GPX files?

No. The course is marked with pink ribbon, and parts of it use trails or land open to the race only on race day. Routes go up on Trailforks once they're close to final. The map here shows where each 2026 stage started and finished.

Is there a cutoff time at BC Bike Race?

No set cutoffs. If you can't finish a stage, the race helps you off the course and back to basecamp, and encourages you to ride the remaining stages.

Can you race BC Bike Race solo?

Yes. The Classic XC race has solo and team of two categories, and the Enduro is solo only. In a team you start together, and your time is when the second rider crosses the line.

What's the difference between the XC and Enduro courses?

They are separate courses. XC times you from start to finish every day. Enduro times four or five stages a day, raced blind with no pre-riding, over 30 to 45 km of riding. Both use the same basecamp.
